To the Editor:

Here is the motto of the Chanhassen Storm varsity football team:  "We are not typical."  It was adopted well before they heard of any potential problems associated with their home field.

While city and school officials assess the safety of the team's home bleachers and plaza area at Chanhassen High School, which appear to have suffered severe erosion under the plaza area due to this summer's rains, the team was informed this past month that they may not be playing any home game at home.

The school administration continues to look for possible solutions to holding the remaining three home games at home, yet the season is in full swing and the players are focused on "playing the games," no matter where they may end up being.

The school district is also scouting the area for other places to play Chanhassen's "home" games against Benilde-St.  Margaret's, Bloomington Kennedy, and Bloomington Jefferson if a solution cannot be found to play the games at the Chanhassen stadium.

The moot, "We are not typical," has taken on a whole new meaning for the players, considering the uncommon and additional adversity this team has to face.

It may take a little extra effort, but with the support of an enthusiastic fan base and community, we can put the "home" back into homecoming at Chanhassen High School this year on Friday nights.  Come out and support the Storm, wherever they may end up playing.
