Allan and I treated my parents to dinner at P.F. Chang's one night, for Dad's birthday, where they enjoyed the Ahi Tuna and Shrimp in Lobster Sauce. Another night they treated us to dinner at Cheddar's, also on the outskirts of McAllen, where I had the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich, Allan the Hawaiian Chicken Salad, while Mom and Dad shared Steak and Vegetables. Among other things, eating is a highlight of life, is it not? In past years we've visited their Farmer's Market, the Flea Market, the Ropas, Pepe's on the River, and the Basilica Shrine of San Juan. We've crossed the river on a rope-pull barge and rode the Chicken Train from Matamores to Reynosa. We've played on the beaches and fed the seagulls at South Padre Island. We've attended the Annual Border Fest and stage shows featuring Myron Floren and Boxcar Willie. We've played Mom and Dad's golf course, swam in their pool, laughed in their hottub under the stars, and danced at their dance halls. We've toured colonias where the poor live and also the mansions where the rich live. This year we mainly hung out with Mom and Dad at home on the Rio Grande ... and it was grand.
A display of photos from our jaunt to Texas and Mexico is online in Sue's Album. Click here: |
