To the Editor: The November issue of the Gazette was a personal jackpot with two places dear to my heart spotlighted -- Lake Auburn Moravian Church and Victoria Lumber/C.H. Carpenter (the lumberyard)). Thank you so much for your articles and photos. While Lake Auburn has a long history and a future, I am sad that the same can’t be said for the lumberyard. Both places hold many cherished memories for me and my family. It was especially touching for me to see your photograph, from an earlier time, of my parents, Wilfred and Inez Plocher, among those included in your lumberyard memories. Thanks again, Sue. To the Editor: I sent you an email from your website but I don’t think it went through. Therefore I am going to cover bases and send it directly. My brother Robert Miller has emailed you several times expressing his gratefulness about the publishing of this paper and keeping him informed about his hometown. He told me that you might be interested in interviewing our mom. She is currently residing at Westview Acres in Waconia and is 95. You did a story on Jerome Zanger, our neighbor, entitled “Man on the Lake.” Members of his family had it framed and it hung over his kitchen table for as long as he lived at Lake Wasserman. Through my brother writing letters to the Gazette, a childhood friend of mine who, as I understand you share a connection, read my brother’s letter and responded to it. It was then brought to my attention and we connected after all these years. I must say your paper gets around and is certainly enjoyed by many people. Maxine Miller Benton via email
To the Editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Victoria for their support in the recent election. Thanks also to the many friends who helped spread the word and supported my candidacy. Although I was not elected to the Victoria City Council, the experience was very rewarding. Along the way I met many new people, made a few new friends, and learned a bit about how the city operates, the issues that affect the citizens of Victoria, and the process of running a campaign. To the Editor: Found the fishhook on the very end of the cornucopia on page 30. Very clever. Thanks for a fun thing to look for in your papers. Please enter me in your drawing. Georgianna Klaustermeier New Germany, Minnesota |
