Coming or Going. Whether delivering or picking up, this faded red pickup truck was parked in Victoria across from the Lions Pancake Breakfast on Sunday morning, December 1st. The tarp, blown back or thrown back, revealed a large box wrapped in Christmas paper, fronds of a palm tree sticking every which way, timbers of sorts, and evergreen branches intertwined amongst all of it. It seemed like Sanford and Son stopped in Victoria. ~Editor Sue
Only Seven More Months Till Golf. This picture was taken on the 17th green at Deer Run. I was golfing with my neighbors and we all have our own carts. This was around August 1st. We walked onto the 17th green and when I turned around to walk back to the cart, I said this would be a great picture. The course was in great shape so everything was green. The Littlest Christmas Tree. In honor of the 16th birthday of my best selling book, "The Littlest Christmas Tree," I want to say Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen! The adventure is still growing. I am in awe and gratitude for the gifts this little book has given to so many. Peace, love, and gratitude to you for your presence in my life, whether in my work, my church, my vocation, in my books, my Victoria neighborhood, or at Silver Lake, Wisconsin -- the true home of The Littlest Christmas Tree. The trees are small growing friends waiting to see the Christ Child. They lean into the wind, become rooted and then are taken to celebrate the birth of Christ. We, too, wait for the day when we can celebrate summer all year long and sunshine of blessings all around us. On that day the angels will watch us and guide us to meet Him in Paradise. We will sway in grace, bend in adoration, and find ourselves decorated with the saints and see our families who will meet us. We will find ourselves in the gifts of everlasting love and laughter and peace in the presence of the King. We will gather and sing, "O Holy Night." And we will share love and find Him with open arms to greet us." Janie Jasin Victoria, Minnesota

Making Spirits Bright. Visitors to the MN Landscape Arboretum will enjoy a 20-foot live poinsettia tree made of more than 500 white poinsettia plants soaring to the ceiling of the Great Hall. It is capped by a sculpted glass tree-topper, "Star of Minnesota," created by Craig Mitchell Smith whose glass art will be featured in the Arboretum's 2014 "Nature in Glass" summer exhibition. It is joined by large festively decorated trees and glistening decor. Barb DeGroot, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum |
