JAMIE: "I've been fortunate enough to direct the choir at St. Victoria since February of 1997. A couple of my favorite Christmas choir pieces of all time are 'Jesus What a Wonderful Child' and 'Angels Was a Shoutin' on Christmas Morn.' They're both uptempo, fun, spirited pieces that the choir sings so well. I really enjoy the energy that shines from the group as we sing these pieces, and they are always favorites of the congregation. "Do I get nervous before the concert? Before every concert, I always feel lots of nervous energy, but because of the people participating and the support of the people who come to listen, it is easily channeled in a positive way to help energize the entire concert. "I continue to be thankful for, and blessed by, all of the amazing musicians that I get to work with in the Music Ministry at St. Victoria. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you out there in Gazette Land!"
Cranberry Chili Meatballs♫ from Dick Ertl, bass 1 can (14 oz.) jellied cranberry sauce 1 bottle (12 oz.) chili sauce 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 tsp. chili powder 1/2 tsp. ground cumin 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper 1 pkg. (32 oz.) frozen fully cooked home- style meatballs, thawed In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the first six ingredients. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add meatballs. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes or until hot, stirring occasionally. Yield: about 6 dozen.
Writes Dick, "We like this recipe because it's easy to make and always one of the first gone. We can't manage a particular food tradition at Christmas time! We own Real Deals on Home Decor in Victoria and have kids in two other states. Our holidays are a moving target. "I've been in the choir for nine years. I don't have favorite Christmas choir pieces. Well written music is always enjoyable and good. I started singing in high school."
Reuben Dip♫ from Julianne Wartman, alto 3/4 cup sour scream 8 oz. cream cheese 8 oz. sauerkraut 1 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese 1 to 2 Tblsp. milk 2 pkg Buddig or deli corned beef Heat all together until completely mixed and cheese is melted. Serve hot or cold with party rye breads.
Says Julianne, "I like this recipe because I like sauerkraut. I'm part German and part Swiss. For Christmas my kids always bring stuff for the meal so I don't do much cooking at all. One of our family traditions was to make a Christmas wreath out of cornflakes and marshmallows -- like rice krispie bars. We'd shape it like a wreath and then stick red cinnamon hots all over it. The kids always picked off the cinnamon hots. "I like all kinds of Christmas music that we sing at choir but I can't tell you the titles. Just pick a couple for me. I've been singing since I was 15 and now I'm 80."
