To the Editor: Hi, Sue. The City of Victoria and the Victoria Business Association are partnering to host another Home-Based Business Meeting on Thursday, January 9th. An agenda and formal invitation will be mailed next month but please save the date. We will have a guest speaker -- Lee Hall from Open to Business -- to talk about the free business consulting they offer in partnership with the Carver County Community Development Agency (CDA). The City is also starting up the New Resident Welcome Kits to be distributed after the 1st of the year. The "Victoria for a Lifetime Committee" is taking the lead on this effort. If you would like to donate any items -- business cards, brochures, gift cards, etc. -- they will be distributed to new residents in person. We've issued over 115 new home permits in Victoria in 2013 and, in addition to existing homes being sold, this is a great opportunity for you to reach hundreds of new customers. Please bring 100 of your items to City Hall on Friday, December 13th, so they can be ready by the 1st of the year. Thanks. Holly Kreft, Victoria Community Development Director
To the Editor: Over the past 12 months, the Bountiful Basket Food Shelf of Eastern Carver County has distributed 330,000 pounds of food to people who are in need. Over 1,200 individuals are served each month with children making up approximately 40% of this total. Bountiful Basket Food Shelf is a 100% volunteer staffed nonprofit organization serving primarily the Carver, Chanhasssen, Chaska, and Victoria area. We are totally dependent on donated food and dollars to help others. The purpose of this letter is to ask for your help as part of our annual financial campaign titled, "Neighbors That Care Share." Your tax deductible donation will help us over the next year in buying basic food types as needed to help your neighbors who are in need. On behalf of the many volunteers who work at the food shelf, we thank you for your consideration of this request. If I can answer any questions you may have, please feel free to call me at 952-227-7745 or stop at the food shelf. Thank you for caring. Tom Redman, Chairman Bountiful Basket Board Chaska, Minnesota

The VBA is putting together a thank-you gift bag for them. If you or your business would like to donate for this cause, please contact us. Location of the event is the north side of Tower Boulevard in downtown Victoria across from the Clocktower building. Help us make this a fun and successful event for the community. To the Editor: Good afternoon. Carver County invites you to attend a kickoff of the Carver County Veterans Program on Monday, November 25th, at the Carver County Government Center. The Carver County Veterans Program provides veterans who become involved in the criminal justice system, programming that promotes consequences and accountability, as well as provides services tailored to the specific needs of the veterans who may suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, brain injuries, or chemical dependency. The program is a response to the growing trend of veterans who face criminal charges stemming from chemical dependency and mental illness as a result of their service. The goal of the program is to promote accountability, sobriety, recovery, and stability through a coordinated response that involves collaboration with many partners in our court system and veterans groups, which include the Carver County Attorney's Office, courts, prosecutors, defense bar, law enforcement, probation, Veterans Affairs, and other veterans groups. Mark Metz Carver County Attorney Victoria, Minnesota
