The Scoop

at City Hall

The Scott-Carver Threshers Association is the winner of Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative’s 2009 Touchstone Energy Community Award.  The association, which is a nonprofit organization operated solely by volunteers, received a plaque and $500 cash award and is now eligible for a $1,000 statewide award in March from Touchstone Energy.  For the past 46 years the Threshers Association has held a steam festival with live demonstrations of steam tractors, engines, and threshing equipment just west of Jordan.  At the 92.5-acre showgrounds, volunteer members have created a small village with a log house, East Union Store, print shop, blacksmith shop, sawmill, country store, school house, bookstore, and various displays of antiques.  The group’s Harvest Festival is held the first Saturday in August.  For more information visit www.scottcarverthreshers.org.  Front (l-r): Francis Schatz, Evelyn Atkins, Tom Diethelm.  Back:  Gary Boettcher, Stanley Riegert, Herb Sorell, Bill Pass, Bonnie Riegert, Wes Boettcher.

Shoes for Haiti. Families and friends of the Rising Star Dance Academy of Victoria and Waconia collected 255 pairs of new and used shoes for Haiti earthquake survivors.  In just one short week, families went through their closets and also spread the word to friends, families, and neighbors who helped with reaching the goal.   I want to thank everyone who donated.  This simple yet very meaningful act of kindness will make a difference in someone’s life.  The shoes were soon packaged up and on their way to Haiti.  (Left to right): Jordana Shea, Elizabeth Raymakers, Meghan Weber, Paige Hall, Natalie Erichsen, Emily Shaw.
