To the Editor:

Treat yourself and your sweetheart to a pampered night out on Saturday, February16th.  Share a romantic meal served to your table near a crackling fireplace and enjoy live acoustic music with the Rose Family Singers.  After dinner, meet a live raptor and stroll along a wooded candlelit trail.  An outdoor fire awaits you at trail's end.

Choose from sirloin steak or salmon filet served with Ceasar salad, shitake arborio rice, asparagus spears, and dessert.  Vegetarian, vegan or gluten free options are available upon request.  Bring your own bottle of wine if you wish.  Call for reservations.

To the Editor:

On behalf of the entire Carver County Attorney's Office, I would like to thank Mike Wentzell for his leadership as Chief Deputy County Attorney.  Governor Dayton recently appointed Mr. Wentzell as a district court judge.  Wentzell was sworn in on January 31st and will be chambered in Chaska.

Simply stated, Carver County is a better and safer place to live and work because of Mr. Wentzell's tireless pursuit of justice as a prosecutor and chief deputy.  Mr. Wentzell has proven himself worthy of such an important and weighty position as a judge.

As one of the State's best prosecutors for the past twelve years, Wentzell has doggedly pursued justice with a tempered and compassionate approach.  He has dedicated his career to protecting the rights of both victims and defendants, while holding criminals accountable for their behavior.

He has also been a trusted advisor to Carver County agencies, served on sexual violence committees, is a member of Chaska Rotary, serves as an adjunct law professor at William Mitchell College of  Law, and in his spare time referees hockey.  Most importantly, Wentzell is as fine a human being that you will meet.

Everyone who will appear in front of Judge Wentzell will most assuredly walk out of his courtroom and say, "I received a fair hearing," whether they won or lost, because they will appear in front of a judge who is unfailingly polite and respectful, patience, humble, thoughtful, diligent, and uses common sense while always following the law.  That is the person we have come to know and respect.

Mike Wentzell is proof that hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to public service can enable someone to realize their dream.

Victoria resident Joel Wartgow, senior director of Carlson Wagonlit Travel Solutions Group, has been named to the Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation Board, effective immediately.

With a B.S. degree in tourism management, and more than 17 years of experience in the travel and hospitality industries, Wartgow is thrilled to share his affinity for these industries with Minnesota's youth.  He looks forward to helping the foundation cultivate a passion among students for the hospitality and travel industries and demonstrate the multitude of carer opportunities they provide.

To the Editor:

Over 200 years ago our Founders fought tyranny, uniquely giving us a democratic republic.  It changed the world.  Americans held liberty steadfast for over a century until February 3rd, 1913, when the 16th Amendment began trading away our God-given liberties wrested by our Founders from tyrants.

Since 1913 we've bartered liberty for perceived physical and financial security, lessening and weakening personal liberty.

The 16th Amendment (income tax) set the stage to diminish freedom, ceding power to tax, and thus track income.  The IRS was set up to monitor citizens' income, enabling the political class to know and control every aspect of our lives.  To comply we self-report all income-related life aspects.  The IRS code enables monitoring and manipulation, hence control of each of us.
