I believe that the settlement of a contract with District 112 teachers is also an important issue that deserves the full and immediate attention of the school board.  There is one more mediation session scheduled for January 5th.  The school board’s next regular meeting will be held on January 14th, 2010.  This would be the last opportunity to ratify a contract before the January 15th deadline and penalty.

         There is no more time to waste on this issue.  I believe that it is possible for the two parties to achieve a successful settlement.  It will require listening to each other and finding solutions that work for both.  It will mean give and take.  Ultimately, students and the community will be better off.  This school district should not be sending $220,950 back to the state.

         Next Thursday, January 7th, we’re having a grand opening for our new Neonatal Care Unit, an important addition to the services offered through Ridgeview and a collaboration with Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota.

         You’re welcome to get a sneak peek and join us at the VIP portion, which takes place from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., prior to the public event.  There will be a program with messages from physicians and Ridgeview and Children’s leadership at 5:45 p.m.  Please let me know if you’ll attend or if you need additional information. 

         If we get any photos of Victoria residents at the event, I’ll send them your way.
