Letters to the Editor |
To the Editor: I have just finished my first year serving on the Victoria City Council. It’s been a very productive and personally rewarding experience for me. During the past year I have been consistently reminded of how passionately our citizens care about Victoria and its future. I have also been deeply impressed with the dedication, commitment, and energy of Mayor Thun and my fellow councilmembers. One aspect above all stands out in my mind. I think it is important that the citizens of Victoria realize how well they are served by the effort of the city staff. What I saw indirectly as a private citizen over the past ten years that my wife and I have lived in Victoria, I experienced directly during the past year. The city staff, led by City Administrator Don Uram, is a professionally capable, highly dedicated group with years of experience in city government in general and Victoria in particular. They work very hard and are committed to the continued wellbeing of our city. I look forward with great anticipation to the challenges and opportunities that we will face as a city and council over the next few years and am grateful for the deep interest and support of our citizens, fellow councilmembers, and city staff. Tom O’Connor Victoria City Councilmember Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: What a beautiful and inspiring story you wove about Ancsa. Here I am, an 83-year old who just celebrated (I should say, “took note of”) 65 years of marriage to a really super fine woman, and then read your story about Ancsa and fell in love all over. Thank you for a superb article and our best wishes and blessings to Ancsa and the Bonners. Howard and Anita Wigfield Shakopee, Minnesota
To the Editor: We are kids of Tim Walsh, the Fire Chief for the Victoria Fire Department. My mom got us started a long time ago looking for the fishhook. This month we remembered to look right away when we got the paper. My sister Kristine found the hook. It’s on page 33 in the Deer Run Christmas ad. Merry Christmas! Katelynn and Kristine Walsh Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Happy 2010! Found the fishhook in the Deer Run ad. The Deer Run golfers have to put away the preppy clothes and get out the shovel, ice chopper, salt for the sidewalk, and dress like Russian polar bears. Golfing at Deer Run this winter? Nyet! Hard to believe it’s ice fishing season. Keep a good distance from ice hole as you walk around and keep the fog off your glasses if you don’t want your feet baptized in the lake. I can still remember doing that at the Chaska Fishing Contest when I was 12. Fogged up glasses, below zero, kerplunk, right foot in a fishing hole. The toe box on my boot was the hardest to get up and out of the hole. I almost lost my boot in the clayhole. I sat in the pavilion by a space heater until my sock dried and Ma and I went home. Someone gave me an empty plastic bag from hamburgers buns. I put my foot in the plastic bag, then put my soggy boot back on and didn’t feel the wet boot. I wouldn’t want to repeat that. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: You told Ancsa’s amazing story. You made me cry many times. It flows wonderfully and has such a gentleness and grace about it. Thank you for telling Ancsa’s story. It has reminded me of all the good. Sometimes life is difficult but God has been good. Maureen Bonner Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Always fun to find the fishhook. It’s on the Deer Run Christmas ad. The Fresh Seasons Market is a neat store. Can’t help but stop in when driving by. Happy holidays to you and your staff. Marie Otten Waconia, Minnesota
