Victoria Gazette - Calendar of Events

New Year's Day. Sunday, January 1st, 2017. It is the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian Calendar as well as the Julian Calendar used in the Roman Empire since 45 B.C. The Gregorian Calendar of 1582 was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII to include leap days. The Julian Calendar had been introduced by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C. A Julian year averaged 365.25 days.

Epiphany. An epiphany is a sudden perception, enlightenment, or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something. The Epiphany is when the Three Kings visited the Holy Family and saw God in His Son as the human Baby Jesus.

Victoria Council Meetings. At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 9th, and Monday, January 23rd, at City Hall on Stieger Lake Lane.

Full Moon. Thursday, January 12th. The moon is fully illuminated as seen from earth. At Full Moon, the moon and sun are on a line with earth in between, as though the moon and sun are sitting on either end of a seesaw.

Martin Luther King Day. Monday, January 16th. An American federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. to celebrate the life and achievements of the influential civil rights hero. He was born on January 15th, 1929, and assassinated on April 4th, 1968.
