SHORTER CITY SCOOP FROM FEBRUARY

ANTICIPATING VICTORIA’S MARKET TO OPEN

*City Manager Laurie Hokkanen reported that Fresh Seasons is proposing to open as Victoria's Market and they're targeting operation by May 1st.  "The reaction they've gotten has been overwhelmingly awesome," she said.  New General Manager is Will Jedlicka.

*Council accepted the following donations:  $250 from Fredrick McGraw and $25 from Joan Holasek for the Victoria Fire Department.

*Council received communication from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District in regard to its 2013 project on the Wetland Restoration Project just east of the Victoria Fire Station.  "2014 was the first full growing season for the restoration.  Despite the very challenging conditions for plant establishment caused by prolonged high water, the site functioned remarkably well."  Part of its purpose is to improve the water quality in Stieger Lake.

*The Victoria Fire Department responded to 232 calls in 2014.

*Council approved a resolution -- and the Carver County All-Hazard Mitigation Plan -- that gives cities a better plan for when disasters happen, including better access to grant funding.

*Corporal Liz Gruenhagen was introduced as "the primary face of public safety in Victoria."  She is on daytime calls Monday through Friday.  Asked Mayor O'Connor, "Have you got any words of wisdom?"  Replied Corporal Gruenhagen, "Wear your seatbelts."

*Council voted to support the City of Chaska's application to include a County Road 140/Hwy 212 interchange in the Governor's Capital Bonding Bill for 2015.  Stated Laurie, "We feel it would also be beneficial to Victoria, especially for our area at County Roads 10 and 11."

*Lani said that few people are aware of what's going on with the upcoming Highway 5 construction project.  Cara said MnDOT is taking bids on February 26th.  She'll get more information.
