To the Editor: Thank you again, dear Sue, for your wonderful article on Virginia Harris! Ginny always was a dynamo in her work for Victoria and with her wonderful family. I taught Casey and Tricia piano and loved that connection with the Harris family who lived right down the road. Bravo to this amazingly talented woman in your lead February story. I hope to see Ginny at the Minnesota Opera soon to congratulate her. Lydia Holsten, Smithtown Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Received the Gazette today. It's only 12:30 so haven't read all of it as yet. Sue, I'm laughing here by myself reading your editorial. It's hilarious. I agree wholeheartedly with you, about all those ridiculous commercials. You made my day more enjoyable, plus the sun is shining. Great! Love it! The fishhook is on page 24 on the letter "C" in the Waconia Ford ad. I'm coming over this spring to tour Victoria's new library and other additions and of course eat, most likely at the Victoria House. I show the Gazette to my kids and for sure your editorial, especially this one regarding Jenny and the guy at the Alco Store. Sue, you could and should write a book with all your tales, with your skills. (I'm stealing the word "tales" this time from the Cowboy Guy. So, TaTa.) Gerene Kes Minnetonka, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hey, Sue. Since you are our resident Word Smithette, I sensed that you would appreciate this very unique reference to words and phrases that I grew up with, although before your time. The compilation is from Richard Lederer: Hubba-hubba. Heavens to Betsy. Gee whillikers. Jumpin' Jehosaphat. Holy moley. In like Flynn. Living the life of Riley. Not for all the tea in China. I'll be a monkey's uncle. This is a fine kettle of fish. Bigger than a bread box. Knee high to a grasshopper. Heavens to Murgatroyd! I noted that he left out "23 skidoo" and "I love my wife, but oh you kid." Gary Foehringer Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Happy St. Patrick's Day. Happy birthday to my twin brothers Dave and Dan, and happy 92nd birthday to my dad Gene who likes to spend part of winter in Mesa, Arizona, hibernating from Minnesota. Dad and my stepmom Helen are in a gated community in Mesa. It has a golf course community center. Lots of Chaska people they get to see while on vacation. I tease them and ask if they want some snow for that dry air down south. They have an orange tyree just out from their bungalow. Dad comes home with lemons and oranges and pecans from Mesa. One spring he had five boxes of pecans and they were not good as they had empty shells. The lemons and oranges were bigger than tennis balls. A friend of Mom's, Julia Naughton, fixed Dad lemon meringue pie, his favorite, with Arizona lemons. Taste wise, there's a big difference between an Arizona lemon and bottled lemon juice in a lemon pie. I did eventually find a good batch of pecans in that stash of Dad's and was able to add it to my banana bread recipe. I froze it and put it out for Father's Day. The grandkids wolfed it down before I even got a taste. But I had plenty of pecans to make another batch of banana bread for just Dad and me and no rugrats. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
