Ash Wednesday. March 1st. The first day of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter, Sundays not included. Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation, and spiritual discipline.

Daylight Savings Time. Begins Sunday March 12th. On Sunday, March 12th, at 2 a.m. clocks are turned forward one hour to Sunday, March 12th, 3 a.m. Sunrise and sunset will be about one hour later on March 12th, 2017, than the day before. There will be more light in the evening.

St. Joe's Fish Fries. First six Fridays in Lent beginning March 3rd at St. Joe's School in Waconia, 4 to 7:30 p.m.

GA Fish Fry. Friday, March 31st, at Guardian Angels School Gym in Chaska, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Victoria Lions Fish Fry. Friday, March 31st, in Elstan Hall at St. Victoria Church, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Full Moon. Sunday, March 12th. The moon is full when the moon is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun. When this occurs, the entire surface of the moon looks to be illuminated. The full moon occurs every 29.53058 days.

St. Patrick's Day. Friday, March 17th. The day is named after Saint Patrick (385-461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. One of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity.

Spring Begins. Around March 20th or 21st each year, when sunrise and sunset are about twelve hours apart everywhere on earth. Also called the vernal equinox, it's when the sun sits directly above the equator on its apparent trip northward. Of course, the sun isn't moving; the earth is.

City Council Meetings. The second and fourth Monday, March 13th, and Monday, March 27th.
