To the Editor: Happy Mom’s Day. My mom’s birthday was May 13th. Often she had a birthday on Mother’s Day. My brothers often teased Mom telling her the mischief she missed out on over the years, things she didn’t remember. She’d say, “I don’t remember that! Ach! When was that? When did that happen? What grade were you boys in?” It was funny watching her all surprised, her hands on her cheeks in surprise. My brothers Dave and Dan are fraternal twins, born 20 minutes apart. Dave was more quiet. Dan always had a quick sense of humor. Mom marked their clothes #1 and #2 so they could tell their clothes apart. Even the BVD’s were marked that way with the laundry pen. Leave it to Dan to say, “Yeah, Mom, I had #2 in my undies!” Mom would get beet red from laughing. Happy birthday to Mom’s buddy Marcy Jaspers from Chaska. Found the fishhook again, this time on page 19 in the Life Puzzles artwork. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: As a boy growing up in Victoria, I had the privilege of being raised by a variety of moms. I still remember my mom struggling through cancer until it got the best of her when I was eight years old. I wish I could have gotten to know her better, but that just wasn’t meant to be. After she passed, it was my sisters and my dad who took over the responsibilities of nurturing and teaching me the finer points of growing up, for which I’ll be forever grateful to them. As time went on I got to share a lot of different events and meals with just about every household in town. I’d like to thank each and every mom for treating me like one of their own. They were all wonderful. When it came time to begin a new family of my own with my loving wife Barb, I got to see up close and personal what it takes to be a terrific mother. So to all of the mothers out there, have a blessed day and thanks a bunch. Bob (Willie) Williams Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thanks for keeping me on the Gazette mailing list. I just browsed throughout that last edition so far, but there was some interesting stuff. The article about the diving coach and divers caught my eye. I dove through high school and part of college and coached high school diving for five years, so it was interesting to see that article. Have a good weekend. Luke Evens, Hopkins, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thanks so much for the story and pictures on the Hartman Tree Farm and Hartman Companies in the April issue of the Gazette. You did a great job on the story and we all appreciate it and thank you for your efforts. Dan Stratman, Hartman Companies Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I’m from Carroll, Iowa, visiting my grandma, looking through the Gazette and find it interesting to read. I found the fishhook on the puzzle on page 19. Keep up the good work. Ann Marie Groff, Carroll, Iowa
To the Editor: After much searching I finally found the fishhook. It’s on page 19 as part of Life Puzzles. One good thing about searching for the fishhook -- it’s a great exercise for brains of all ages. Barbara Johnson Sacred Heart, Minnesota
To the Editor: We are deeply grateful for your prayers, cards, and other thoughtful ways of supporting us at the loss of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather, Lloyd Braunworth. Your presence, cards, kind words, and memorials showed how much you cared and we want you to know how much we appreciate it. Memorials were sent out to the Carver County Veterans Van Fund, and also to the Victoria, Waconia, Norwood Young America, and Hamburg Fire Departments, the Victoria American Legion Post 1995, the Chaska VFW Post 1791, the Lake Auburn Moravian Church Cemetery Fund, and Chaska Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Fund. A special thank you to Pastor Frank Jones, the Lake Auburn Ladies Aid, and Todd and Art Johnson of the Johnson Funeral Home. The moment of silence before the council meeting for Lloyd’s service to the City of Victoria was very thoughtful. On June 6th, 2008, Lloyd and Lorraine would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Lorraine Braunworth and families Victoria, Minnesota
