City Scoop Continued

*Council approved a resolution supporting increased safety for trail crossings of the Lake Minnetonka LRT Trail operated by the Three Rivers Park District.  The city has crossings with the trail at Rolling Acres Road, the Public Works Building, Stieger Lake Boat Access, Park Drive, and 62nd Street West.  As Planner Holly Kreft said, “This is about standardizing the various crossings from Victoria to Hopkins.”

*Council was asked to make an interfund transfer of $55,168 from the 2009 Downtown Street Reconstruction Project to the General Fund.  In 2008 the city had expended $55,168 for engineering fees from the General Fund for the Downtown Street Project.  Mayor Thun had another idea.   “Seems this is, for lack of a better term, extra money,” she said.  “When we get bonuses like that, we should be thinking about where we’re going to put that bonus.  I make a motion to put the $55,168 into a Permanent  Improvement Revolving Fund.”  Motion passed 5-0.

*Council approved the purchase of a handheld water meter utility device, also called a meter reader, in the amount of $7,053.  It is used to upload and store water usage and meter data for the city’s utility billing.  The purchase replaces a 1998 model.

*Finance Director Jylan Johnson reported that approximately 80% of residents pay their utility bills by check.  Electronic payments are also available.

*Tim Amundsen asked that people be informed to keep grass clippings out of the street and stormsewer.
