$17,000 FROM CHASKA LIONS CHARITABLE GAMBLING

*The City of Victoria will issue a letter of appreciation to the Chaska Lions Club for their donation of $17,000 from their charitable gambling operation sites at Floyd’s and Schmitty’s in Victoria, for their fiscal year 2007-2008.

         *The Victoria Fire Department received the following donations:  Bruce and Ann Allen $100, Bryan and Jodi Olson $85, Kelly Hagel $25, Sarah and Anthony Grovel $25.

         *Mayor Thun presented certificates of appreciation to Mary Hadaway, Mary Erickson, Linda McNulty, and Lois Ploche for their work in planning and organizing the 2008 Victoria Volksfest.  This year it was a financial success.

         *Jim Paulsen pointed to continued good news at the Victoria Field House.  “Ann Mahnke is moving in a positive direction.  Everything is better.  Somebody is working over there and we want to acknowledge that.”  Tim Amundsen referred to the reasonable cost of membership, “In this economy, the Field House is more of an opportunity than ever.”

         *Don Uram said on October 9th that School District 112 reported bids on the Addition to the Field House/Second Sheet  of Ice came in “significantly higher” than anticipated.

         *Kim Roden asked about reciprocal membership at local community centers for parents with kids who are playing hockey, for example, so they could work out while waiting for their kids.

         *Kim Roden said speed complaints continue on Rolling Acres Road and Bavaria Road.

         *Minnetonka Community Education will again sponsor a kids voting booth at Victoria Precinct #1.  Purpose is to help students become comfortable with the voting process.

         *Council approved ice allocation agreements with Holy Family Catholic High School (291.5 hours at $50,612), Minnetonka Youth Hockey Association (650 hours at $113,750), and Chaska Hockey Association (260 hours at $45,500).  If more ice time is used, they will be responsible for additional payment.

         *Olson Construction will receive $41,340 for demolition of the four downtown city-owned properties from TIF dollars.  The included the three single family homes on Quamoclit and the Old Cafe on Main Street.

         *Sarah Hinrichs and Kate Groscshen were hired for part time work at the front desk of the Victoria Field House.

         *Council approved a variance request from School District 112 to not construct curb and gutter at a parking lot to be located on the southeast corner of Diethelm Park.

         *Council approved the city administrator request to change the date of Committee and Commissioner terms to end on March 31st of each year rather than December 31st in order to provide newly elected councilmembers the opportunity to make the appointments.

         *Council held two final assessment hearings for street projects completed in 2007, declared the total amount to be assessed, and adopted the assessment roll for the Woodstone and Smithtown streets.
