Ready to Fly. The second graders in Miss Gelhar’s class at St. Joseph Catholic School in Waconia have been captivated this fall in watching the life cycle of the butterfly. They received a very special package in the mail the second day of school with butterfly larva inside. They have watched and documented the metamorphosis of the larva through the chrysalis and into the adult butterfly stage. The last week of September, they released the butterflies at the city park. The butterflies were ready to fly! “It tickles your hand,” said second grader Delaney Devins (left) of Victoria. Stan Kohls (right) of Victoria added, “It’s fun to chase them around the park.” The second graders continue their study of life cycles and various land and water habitats through the end of the first trimester.
