On page B1 of the Oct 11th edition of the daily paper, there’s a photo of our Stamp Club’s president, Bill Anderson, carrying a cutout of a large duck with lots of stamps on it.  Harriet and I helped Bill put stamps on this duck, and we spent several hours on our front porch doing it.  You can also see the photo online.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  My name is Kati Piper.  Lucas Doppler, a Victoria resident, submitted a video of himself singing a song he co-wrote to CMT, Country Music Television.  The contest is called Music City Madness and starts tomorrow on cmt.com.

Out of hundreds and hundreds of contestants, he was picked as one of the 64 finalists.  I directed and edited the video and thought I would help him out by spreading the word.  You will be able to view his video at www.cmt.com/interact/music_city_madness.

If you would like to reach either of us regarding a story, feel free to contact me.  Look forward to hearing from you.  Thought it might make for a fun feature story as will help get  Lucas votes.

To the Editor:

I am leaving the Savage, Minnesota, area for a better job and life, moving to Greenwood, Indiana.  I will be buried one day next to my mom and relatives in Victoria in the paid-grave which has my stone on it.  I was brought to Victoria in 1947, to Stieger Lake, after being born in San Diego, California, during World War II.  My dad was a Navy soldier.  My mom was born in Victoria.

Love your paper.  New address enclosed.  Thank you.

         Yours truly,

Hi, Sue.  We have started planning our 20-year class reunion and I was wondering if you could give me Jenny’s email address.  Or if you prefer, just forward this to her and ask her to contact me.

We were thrilled with your coverage of the 2008 Volksfest and thank you so much for your kind words.  Bringing Victoria residents together in celebration of our special community is something the Volksfest committee strives to do.  I know you do as well.  Thanks so much.

To the Editor:

Halloween is just around the corner.  Along with all of the ghouls and goblins, superheroes, super athletes, Frankensteins, and vampires roaming our streets that night, there are also a large number of young people.  We have a number of safety tips to help make this a fun and safe night for everyone.

*Choose your costume carefully.  Make sure that masks don’t obstruct vision and clothes won’t cause you to trip and fall but are sized to fit warm clothes underneath.

*Choose bright colors and flame retardant materials for your costumes.  Attach reflective tape to costumes.  Bring a flashlight, as well.

*Young children should always trick or treat with an adult or older teenager.  Parents should know what route their kids are taking and what time they are expected home.

*Talk to your teenagers about vandalism.  Vandalism is not okay.  It can cause thousands of dollars in damage and ruin Halloween for everybody.

*Take extra care and caution while driving.  Young ones get very excited when they sense candy in the area and tend to jump out and run with wild abandon.  Slow down, especially in residential areas.  Watch for low flying brooms and wraiths.  Have a safe and fun Halloween.
