Inside the Acorn House. The Green Institute has been working on removal of items from the Acorn House at Diethelm Park before its removal, which is expected in mid October. The Green Institute is a nonprofit organization from Minneapolis that salvages building materials (kitchen cabinets, floors, windows, doors, millwork, lighting, hardware) for resale at one of three ReUse Centers in the metro area. Ann Mahnke Director of Park & Rec/Field House Victoria, Minnesota EDITOR’S NOTE: The Acorn House was formerly a family home (Wayne Bongard) surrounded by outbuildings, before the property was purchased by the City of Victoria in the 1990’s and used for city functions. It is being demolished to make way for construction of a second sheet of ice at the Victoria Field House, which is made possible through a city partnership with School District 112.
Retired Victoria Firefighters. Tom Schmieg, left, and John Storms retired this year from the Victoria Fire Department having put in 28 years and 21 years, respectively. Thank you, Tom and and John, for your faithful and dedicated service to the safety and wellbeing of the Victoria community. We appreciate your work and are grateful you’ve been there for us for so many years. Best wishes to you.
Guitar Hero. Our boys really enjoyed this year’s Volksfest with the Guitar Hero Contest ranking as #1 attraction. Both Jameson and George participated along with many neighbors and friends from Victoria. Our son Jameson Kenney made the final four and managed to come out on top this year, winning the $200 cash prize. Jameson celebrated his 11th birthday that same evening with friends and family. A year to remember. Jim and Elizabeth Kinney Victoria, Minnesota |

Kelly Green Irrigation moved its offices from Minneapolis to Victoria about 18 months ago when they purchased the former C.H. Carpenter Lumber yard along Stieger Lake Lane. Why Victoria? Replied Dugan Kelly, one of four brothers in the business, “Because the majority of our customers were here on the western side of the metro area. We service over 80 cities. It’s my dad’s business.” Kelly Irrigation was established as a family-owned business in 1973. They pride themselves on superior customer service along with installing and servicing residential, commercial, and athletic systems. Duggan and his wife Debi live in Shorewood. They have two daughters, Ashley, 23, and Heather, 20.
