Victoria’s Number One Dog. From the Applewood neighborhood, we would like to introduce you to the Number One Dog in Victoria. His name is Jeter and he is 8 years old. We thought the Gazette would like to know him. In 2008 we went to get our dog license as usual, and we ended up with tag #7 (00007). So for 2009, since Jeter wanted the #1 spot, we went to the Victoria City Hall on January 2nd and, wouldn’t you know it, we were able to get 00001 for our man Jeter. He is the Number One Dog in Victoria. The children of Applewood Circle would be able to give you personal testimonials. Jeter is a lab/golden retriever mix. When the pet store cuts his hair short for the summer, he looks more like a lab. As his hair grows out, he looks more like a retriever. He is super friendly. Jeter was named and trained by our daughter Jessica when she was shortstop on a softball team. Can you guess which baseball player he is named after? We have no idea how many dog licenses Victoria goes through each year, but we do know who the Number One Dog in Victoria is for 2009. Jo-Anne and Steve Young Victoria, Minnesota

Maria Siegle. I am a granddaughter of Dolores Schrempp of Victoria. I am a Carver County Dairy Princess and also had the honor of being a finalist for Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Minnesota’s top dairy ambassador. I had my head carved in butter at the Minnesota State Fair. I am attaching a picture. I thought you might put it in the paper. Being a Princess Kay finalist allowed me to communicate the importance of incorporating dairy into your diet. Speaking to anyone from young children to older adults showed me how enthusiastic people are about the dairy industry and how curious they are. Sharing my story helped me connect with and teach people who don’t have any experience on the farm and illustrate the importance of caring for the land that we call home. My parents are Steve and Sandy Siegle of Cologne, both of whom worked in Victoria several years ago. I graduated magna cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College this spring and am now in my first year of teaching first grade at Park Elementary in LeSueur, MN. I’m working on my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Certificate through Minnesota State University Mankato. Maria Siegle Cologne, Minnesota
