Letters to the Editor |
To the Editor: Thanks so much for running the Mount Olivet Motorheads story in your August edition [Blessed Motors at Mount Olivet]. Your support is much appreciated. Deb Kind, West Campus Mount Olivet Church West Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am adding my appreciation, too. Your publication consistently helps me appreciate the rich history and emerging opportunities in this splendid community. Thank you for your fine work as reporter, editor, and publisher. Pastor Steve Cornils, Lead Pastor Mount Olivet Church West Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I was looking at your website (had a really fun time, by the way; it’s cute and clever) and was wondering what it would cost for us for an online ad? I also noticed The Grapevine. Snap Fitness wasn’t listed in that directory and I was wondering if it was possible to get in. Also, would it be possible to put a link to our website in your page called The Sky? Thanks much, Sue. Marianne Minissale Owner, Victoria Snap Fitness Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I read your paper every month. Thank you for providing so much history about the City of Victoria. As I was reading your “Seems Like Yesterday” column, I wanted you to know that the Jamboree Preschool opened its doors in 1999, starting in the St. Victoria Parish Center at the time. We often go unrecognized but we have been educating preschoolers in Victoria and its surrounding cities for ten years now this September. After moving from the Parish Center over to the current Jamboree Preschool House across the street from St. Victoria, we found in the abstract title that, originally, the land we occupy now was occupied by Michael Diethelm in 1860. This September 2009 we are welcoming little Bridget Diethelm to the Jamboree Preschool! In 1861 this land was deeded to the Catholic Church, and in 1880 it was the wish of Bishop Thomas L. Grace of St. Paul from the Franciscan Brotherhood of Minnesota, that the land be used for a school. I hope in some way I am fulfilling that wish for him. How about that for history! Alica St. Cyr Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thank you for the great team photo [the Orioles from the CAA 9-year old Rookies Division] in your August issue of the Gazette. Lisa Craine Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I would like to acknowledge the Victoria Fire Department for the outstanding job they did in April when I fell and broke my wrist and my hip. They were at my house within five minutes. These men and women are great and we are very lucky to have a group like this in Victoria. I am eternally grateful for the help they gave me. You guys are great. I’d also like to thank all the people who sent cards to me and came to see me. It made the seven and a half weeks I was in rehab go by fast. Dave Lindgren Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: As a member of the Andrew Peterson group here in Carver County, I think it was so great of you to publish Randy Maluchnik’s article in your August issue [Legend of Bule the Giant]. I would be pleased if you could email the article to me so I could forward it to our many friends in Sweden. Jan Hermelin is a VIP in Sweden. He has been a guest in our home and we lent him one of our cars when he was here a couple of times. For your review, my great grandfather John C. Holtmeier and his family settled just across the street from where we live today in 1854, one year earlier than Andrew Peterson. Andrew Peterson’s account books lists my great grandfather John C. Holtmeier as a person whom he did business with by selling him apples and potatoes. His account books also list another great grandfather Zoerb and the Gerdsen cousins as well. Ron Holtmeier Victoria, Minnesota
