About this time of year is when I start getting a sinker kind of feeling. I realize about this time that I don't have that energetic fresh kind of feeling that I had earlier -- like in May and June.

I look at my plants outside and I see that they don't have that fresh kind of color and perkiness as in those first weeks of planting and growing. Some of the hostas are burnt around the edges, as though they've been baked from the nearby heat of the stone walk and retaining wall. Some of the New Guinea impatiens appear to have been poisoned by a passing puppy or dropping from a dove above. The interesting thing is that I don't care so much that they're on the decline. It's a sinker time of year. The sinker is dangling between summer and fall and that's just what we're hooked on right now. That's my line and I'm sticking to it.

Last month the hook was hiding near the neck of the wine bottle on page 29 in the Victoria House ad. When I sunk my fingers into the minnow bucket, they found the Wischnack kids from Plato, Minnesota -- Blake, Kallie, Maleah, and Sawyer. That means roughly $2.50 for each of them. Congratulations, Wischnacks!
