*"I was struck by how Chaska got up and said how the new elementary school was the centerpiece of that development," said Victoria's Steve Sarvi about a recent meeting of the Eastern Carver County Leaders.  The Bernardi development will average 12.8 units per acre.
*Council approved the purchase of a new RICOH AFICIO digital copier sys-tem at a cost of $19,823.35 plus sales tax.  The new maintenance contract is $1,493 per year and includes 132,000 copies, toner, developer, parts, and labor.  The new machine is also a digital printer and eliminates the need to purchase a new printer.
*Council approved the request from Holy Family Catholic High School to operate a raffle in conjunction with the Spirit of Fire Event which will be held March 31st.  This will be a first annual dinner, dance, and auction with an expected attendance of 200 to 300 people.
*Regarding a hockey arena in Victoria, Mayor Mary reported, "We at least want to move forward on investigation."
*Richard Tieden attended a meeting of the Lake Minnetonka Cable Commission and reported, "They have the potential of live cable cast.  They're in the talking stage now.  Also, high speed internet access is available."
*Steve Sarvi suggested the formation of a Public Works Committee, similar to the Park & Rec Committee or Planning Commission, to discuss and make recommendations on infrastructure needs.  Said Jim Paulsen, "I don't want to go to any more committee meetings than we have to."
*Council and staff held a Long Range Planning Meeting at the MN Landscape Arboretum on Friday morning, February 23rd.  Steve said they discussed innovative government and the relationship between staff and council.  Some goals were identified but not yet prioritized.
*City Planner Mark Kaltsas reported on February 22nd that the proposed Lundgren sketch plat for property near Lake Tamarack and Lake St. Joe came back to city staff with "a lot of the issues somewhat resolved."  Said Mark, "They realigned the road so it no longer cuts through the knoll.  The knoll will be preserved.  There'll still be quite a bit of earth work to be done on the site.  The plat should be at the next council meeting."
*Resident Dawn Peterson applied to fill the vacancy on the Park & Rec Committee.  Said Dave Lindgren, "We are so lucky to have her.  If you want something done, you give it to a busy lady.  She's fabulous."
*Boyd Bailey, the city's project coordinator, said that Victoria will have to build a treatment facility to eradicate elevated levels of manganese and iron found in the water supply, but it will take some time.  Said Councilmember Jim Paulsen, "Take as much time as you want, but your life depends on it."
*The traffic signal in downtown Victoria will soon be functional for two-way traffic on Main Street.  Boyd Bailey asked, "Do we want to activate the system now or wait until spring.  We can't stripe the streets now."
