To the Editor:

Spring is in the air!  Heard the first robin in my backyard this morning (3-14) but didn’t really see it.  Enclosed is my subscription check.  Fishhook is on page 34 in the ballplayer’s leg by the Pastor Thomas Braun write-up.  Happy Easter to all.

To the Editor:

Would you please print this letter about my sister Jean’s benefits?  Jean Laumann and her family sincerely thank all the people who attended her benefits in February.  We thank all the businesses and individuals who generously donated the items for the silent auctions.  A special thank you to the volunteers at Sammy’s Hideout and St. Nicholas Parish for their assistance with the benefits.  Jean appreciates the prayers, meals, cards, and flowers people have sent her.  God bless you all.  Continue to keep Jean in your prayers as she continues her battle with cancer.

To the Editor:

I was wondering if you would help me with a school assignment.  My assignment is to contact businesses of my profession (which will be photography) and see what their hiring requirements are.  If you hire someone to take pictures for the Victoria Gazette, I would like to know what requirements you have regarding education, technical skills, and qualities or characteristics that determine if someone is qualified for the job.  I would certainly appreciate any information you could offer.  Thanks for your time.

To the Editor:

These years go by so fast and this subscription renewal is just more proof.  I enjoy the Gazette from end to end -- this coming from a “non-newspaper” reader!  It started with subscribing because of my brother, “Cowboy Tom,” enjoying his column each month, and now I enjoy the whole paper.  It’s like having a set of new friends.  Thank you.  You’re a great editor.

To the Editor:

Sometimes my paper arrives with a torn front page.  I wonder if that happens to any of your other readers.  Thank you for the time and energy you put into the Gazette.  Excellent paper.  It is well done.  I am glad lots of people tell you this.  Your paper is worth more than $15.  May God bless you and your family.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Thank you for the heads-up about torn pages, Sr. Lois.  I think it’s mainly related to the thinner, recycled and poor quality paper that printing presses are using, and perhaps being forced to use, today.  I’m sorry to hear it.

To the Editor:

The Carver County Board of Commissioners has given its blessing to a presentation on what I will not so originally call “The Energy Crisis.”

This is essentially the brainchild of County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik (with the knowledge of the rest of the County Board) who is interested in starting a series of what we are calling “community discussions” on important issues.

This upcoming discussion deals with energy and starts with a presentation by author, engineer, and businessman Joe Shuster.  I have attached info on his recent book.  Obviously we hope the Gazette and other papers are interested in picking up on this event and providing some coverage.

Mr. Shuster will present his road map to steer the United States and the world away from dependence on fossils fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal by the year 2040.  Carver County does not necessarily endorse this view of the information in his book.  The event is to stimulate and foster local discussion.

The presentation will be held on Earth Day, April 22nd, at the MN Landscape Arboretum.
