Membership on the BDC is unlimited but typically consists of ten people. Teresa Gregory said she's been in small business in Victoria since 1985. "There are certain businesses I'd like to see in town," she said. "I'd like to see a drug store. It would be nice for the seniors and others. I've talked to a couple owners. I'd like to do a survey of the residents to see what they want." Kimberly Erickson, who is on the Ambassador Committee with the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce, said she's owned her own businesses for the last 20 years with her husband, most currently six years as a small publishing company for the Tidbits Weekly. "A lot of people are not utilizing the new businesses in town," she said. "I understand that firsthand. I'd love to see Victoria come into its own yet stay away from big bucks retailers. I'd like to see places we can walk to easily. Victoria is so wonderful. I'd like to keep a cohesive type village." Jeff Recker said he's from Minneapolis and bought a house in Victoria in January. He's worked ten to fifteen years in sales and business of software and computer systems, has an MBA, and is an economics major. "I'm always interested in the communities I've lived in," he said. "I moved here for a reason, and I'd like that reason to not change right away. I'd like to keep Victoria a small town but bring in more business." Deb McMillan, who is the President of the Southwest Metro Chamber of Commerce, also applied to be on the Business Development Committee Genevieve Tenoso, who is willing to serve in any capacity, said she'd like to bring her neighbors into downtown Victoria to check it out, that the tendency is to shop elsewhere. "My family owned a small business up north," she said. "There's a radio show that I co-produce and I'm a community organizer for the federal government. I worked for the Census Bureau. I'm willing to take any position. I'd like to see a farmer's market here and a community garden." Councilmember Kim Roden informed her that Victoria has a farmer's market that is open every Wednesday afternoon during the summer and that community garden space is available through the city. Councilmember O'Connor stated in summary, "Every city committee has small slices of time that all come together. Your ability to be impactful is great." It was pointed out that all members of the Victoria Senior Commission are re-applying, as is the city's representative on the Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission. On March 28th the following appointments were made: Business Development Committee: Lani Basa, Kimberly Erickson, Teresa Gregory, Deb McMillan, Jeff Recker, Genevieve Tenoso, Erica Vermeij. Finance Committee: Greg Evansky, Tom Vogt. LMCC: Henry Pryor. Park and Recreation Committee: Toni Dauwalter, Brian Deffaa, Pete Isabell, David High. Planning Commission: Jim Donadio, Grant Peterson, Todd Triethart. Senior Commission: Jim Hoffman, Julie Murray, Jim Pehringer, Sue Weinzierl.
MUSTN’S MISS 3 MEETINGS IN A ROW AND DON’T CHEW GUM IN CLASS Council approved attendance guidelines March 28th "to help facilitate the importance of attending meetings" by members of Victoria's several committees and commissions. It is recommended that members attend 75% of their meetings during a fiscal year. If attendance falls below 75%, a member may be recommended for removal from the committee or commission. Also, a member who misses three consecutive meetings may be recommended for removal. The City Council will review the recommendations and a majority vote would remove that particular member. It was pointed out that serving as a citizen volunteer can be a burden but it is also a responsibility and others rely on their work
