SUPER MOON IN VICTORIA.

I took photos on both Friday evening, July 11th, and Saturday evening, July 12th.  This was one taken on Saturday evening at 9:20 p.m.  All the moon shots were above the tree line and so above all the buildings.  If the moon had risen further south, it might have been near the Victoria Creamery Smokestack in downtown Victoria.  This photo shows cloud streaks across the moon's face, making it look a little like Jupiter.  I took some nearly 50 pictures in all.

The photos were taken from our 4th floor balcony of the condo building at 1776 Stieger Lake Lane.  I was looking somewhat east-southeast, approximately over the Kidtalk and Creamery buildings.  The sky was somewhat hazy with cloud wisps.

Color of the Super Moon was about the same as the regular moon, but the camera seemed to be redder than usual.

The Super Moon is a full moon at the perigee of its orbit about the earth.  That's its closest approach to us and thus the moon appears larger and brighter.  I used a Canon SX30 tripod-mounted.

MINNESOTA GREENSTEP CITY.  The City of Victoria had the honor of being recognized as a Minnesota GreenStep City and received a certificate at the recent League of Minnesota Cities Conference on June 20th for their continued involvement in the Minnesota GreenStep Cities program.

This award shows community members and other cities across Minnesota that the City of Victoria is taking great steps in the direction of energy and resource conservation and innovation.

Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a challenge, assistance, and recognition program.  As one of 67 participating cities, the City of Victoria is helping to lead the way in sustainability across the State of Minnesota.  The City of Victoria has worked hard to implement best practices in order to fulfill their sustainability goals.  Actions that are taken within the program focus on cost savings, energy use reduction, and the encouragement of civic innovation.  Details on the best practices the city has completed can be seen by visiting www.MnGreenStep.org, clicking on "See all cities" next to the map, and then clicking on the city's name.

Said Mayor Tom O'Connor, "This award is a great achievement for the City of Victoria.  And  by being part of the program, the City of Victoria and our 66 peer cities are helping to secure Minnesota's natural beauty for the future while also helping our cities thrive economically and socially."
