To the Editor: Please include this memorial in your February issue of the Gazette. Thank you and best wishes ... “In memory of Pamela Marie Byrne (1/13/63-2/19/05). We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. We think of you in silence, we often speak your name. Now all we have are memories and a picture in your frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has you in His keeping; we have you in our heart. “Sadly missed, by Jeff, Chelsea, Charlie, C.J., Dad and Mom, Patti, Joe, Tabita, Jeremy, Chey, Tim, Sara, Sabrina, Zacharias, Penny, Zoe.” Harvey and Bev Burau Watertown, Minnesota
To the Editor: Here is an update on the construction work on Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) Victoria Interceptor Sewer Tunnels Projet: Lane Shifts Planned On Hwy 7. The tunnel excavator machine has begun work on the first segment of sewer tunnel, moving southwesterly from South Lake Virginia Shores Park to a point in the 6800 block of Rolling Acres Road. The tunnel will be approximately 68 feet below Hwy 7 and 96 feet below Rolling Acres Road. On Tuesday, January 26th, surveyors documented the existing condition of Hwy 7 before the tunnel excavator would cross under the highway. During the survey work, one direction of Hwy 7 at a time will be shifted onto the painted median for a distance of approximately 100 feet. This short lane shift will occur approximately 500 feet east of the intersection of Hwy 7 and Rolling Acres Road/Smithtown Road. Similar lane shifts and surveying of the highway will be required when the tunnel excavator machine is actually crossing under Hwy 7, which we anticipate will occur over several days beginning later in the week of January 25th. Please use extra caution in the lane shift area. Sewer Construction Progress. Majority of work in December and January involved excavation of the sewer tunnel access shaft in South Lake Virginia Shores Park and 4 of 6 access shafts that will be along the west side of Rolling Acres Road. Site preparation work recently began for the first of six tunnel access shafts along Bayview Drive and Hwy 7. This access shaft is in the 900 block of Bayview Drive. Site work has included grading and leveling the site, construction of a temporary drive driveway to access the work area, and installation of a silt fence and a security fence. Excavation of the first segment of sewer tunnel (from South Lake Virginia Shores Park to a point in the 6800 block of Rolling Acres Road) began on January 13th. This runnel segment will be approximately 566 feet long. To date, 30 feet of the tunnel have been excavated. Weekly Walk-in Sessions. For a chance to learn more about the sewer project, attend a weekly walk-in session and visit with Tom Buchal, MCES’s Construction Contract Administrator for this project. The walk-in sessions are held on Thursdays from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the MCES construction trailer at South Lake Virginia Shores Park, 6745 Smithtown Road (north side of Hwy 7). Traffic Alerts. Smithtown Road at the entrance to South Lake Virginia Shores Park, Rolling Acres Road, and Bayview Drive are open during this segment of construction. Temporary driveways have been constructed to connect the tunnel access shaft work sites to these roads. Please be alert for dump trucks, excavators, and other construction traffic entering and exiting these roads, and reduce speed accordingly. Watch for flaggers directing traffic as needed. If you have questions, comments, or concerns about the sewer construction, please bring them to one of the weekly walk-in sessions or feel free to contact us anytime: thomas.buchal@metc.state.mn.us or tim.odonnell@metc.state.mn.us. To the Editor: Just in case you have not heard, on January 13th I had a very minor stroke. With a quick trip to Ridgeview Medical Center and being given a clot bursting med, my symptoms left but I had to go to Abbot Northwestern for therapy by ambulance during the rush hour. I had a CAT scan and an MRI and a bunch of other tests by some pretty nurses and doctors. I was allowed to go home on the 15th. The food and the service were super.
