Dedicated to the sunshine of truth, the moonshine of meeting deadlines, and the starshine of Victoria. |
To the Editor: We enjoy your monthly paper. Your dateline on page 24 had the wrong month. I was a proofreader at one time. Keep up the good copy. The fishhook is on page 39, on the Merry Moose nose, which was at the Arboretum. An original Fink, Ruth and John (Jack) Fink Dassel, Minnesota
To the Editor: All the wonderful pictures you have, it takes me a while to go through the entire paper. Also finally noted that Sophie is your son Nick and his wife Jen's daughter! Addie's drawing has her "bunny" all dressed up in winter attire. Probably when Easter comes around, we may all still be bundled up. Happy New Year. The fishhook was on page 39 on "Merry Moose." Ethel Schneider Shakopee, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thank you for your votes in the business contest for the commercial during the Super Bowl. Had my son in law's Barrel Butter product advanced to this point in its infancy, we might have had a better chance. In any event, you will soon be able to share Barrel Butter with all of your friends in Arizona, Washington, Oregon, and then, dare I say, the world. I'm going to be busy in the kitchen. Chuck Freiberg Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota has compiled the Top Ten industries for consumer complaints and inquiries, according to their final statistics or 2013. BBB handled just over 24,000 complaints in 2013, about the same as the previous year. They resolved roughly 90% of them. Complaints against auto dealers/used cars and auto repair shops took the top two spots in 2013, followed by complaints against auto dealers/new cars. Complaints against new car dealers generally involved issues with the sale of previously owned vehicles or alleged issues with service or repairs. However, the complaints resolution rates for the used and new car industries were 91% and 99%, respectively -- both above the average resolution for BBB complaints. The Top Ten industries by volume of complaints: 1) auto dealers/used cars, 2) auto repair and services, 3) auto dealers/new, 4) siding contractors, 5) construction and remodeling services, 6) contractors, general, 7) roofing contractors, 8) property management, 9) banks, 10) windows, installation and service. The mission of the BBB is to be the leader in building marketplace trust by promoting through self-regulation the highest standards of business ethics and conduct and to instill confidence in responsible businesses. Dan Hendrickson, BBB Minnesota and North Dakota
To the Editor: Light rail between Minneapolis and St. Paul will link Twin Cities residents to neighborhoods and the two downtowns starting Sunday, June 14th, with free rides and day-long community celebrations. Starting this service 60 years to the month after the last streetcar left the Twin Cities is fitting, said Susan Haigh, chair of the Met Council. The new 11-mile corridor between the two downtowns links Union Depot in St. Paul's Lowertown to the State Capitol complex, Midway, University of Minnesota, and Target Field. As the region's second light rail line, the Metro Green Line will connect to the Blue Line (Hiawatha) at Downtown East Station. The opening is nearly six months earlier than required by the Federal Transit Administration, which is funding half the $957 million project. The project is on budget. Lauren Baenen/Bonnie Kollodge Metropolitan Council
To the Editor: Hi, Sue and Al. Today is a very sad day for Connie and me. Yogi has passed away. He had a cancerous tumor on his spleen and yesterday that tumor broke open internally and he began to slowly bleed out. He was never in any real pain, but he became very weak from the blood loss. We spent all of last night comforting him as best we could. This morning (January 27th) we knew we had to take him to the vet. He had been diagnosed with this tumor last fall, and the vet told us this would happen at some point. He gently drifted off into deep sleep about 12:30 this afternoon. We will miss Yogi in many ways. We are sad today but we know we had a wonderful dog for many years. We will never forget him and his unwavering love for us. Ed and Connie Hjermstad Chanhassen, Minnesota
