To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Received the paper yesterday. I was happy to read the letter regarding Ethel Ausink and how well she's doing. Congratulations to Ethel on her 97th. I always enjoyed her writings in the Gazette. I have her picture from her last column of December, 2012. God bless you, Ethel, and your family, not to exclude you, Sue, and all the other writers that I enjoy very much. Found your fishhook on page 27 in the base of the little snowman. To the Editor: Love the Victoria Gazette as I have enjoyed living here as a new resident in our small town and watching the changes occur. My friends who visit are always amazed at how much I know about our town, the additions, and the area -- thanks to the Gazette! I had some time on my hands over the holidays and was inspired to create some Victoria-themed crossword puzzles, and I would love to submit them for your readers, a la Mr. and Mrs. Young's contributions, which I faithfully complete each month. Let me know if you'd like to take a look at them or how I could send them to you. Keep up the good work. Dan Chies Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Happy New Year, Sue. I just wanted to say thank you for the Victoria Gazette. We enjoy reading it around the office. The "My Family Star Recipes" piece in your December paper was fun. Now we know all your family secrets to having a happy holiday season. I love how community-oriented each one of your editions are. Your Gazette makes outsiders feel like they are part of the community. Well, take care, Sue. Hope 2015 is kind to you. Much success for the Victoria Gazette. To the Editor: Happy Valentine's Day. There was a slight confusion in my letter last month. Tom Schrempp isn't my cousin. Connie Schmieg is my cousin and she was my GA classmate until 3rd grade. The Brenda from Victoria was Brenda Diethelm. Lori Mechtel, Jim Leuthner, Tom Schrempp, and Brenda were Victoria kids when I was in 1st grade at GA, and we graduated from Chaska High School in 1983. Those kids on page 27 in the January paper seem ready for a snowball fight. I remember the after school and playground mischief at GA. Gloves work better than mittens as the fingers are free to make that nicely packed snowball, and the temp has to be above 32 degrees. When it's above the freezing point, the snow melts and is a sticky snowball fight. I clobbered a few boys with snowballs. Nuns were spying out the windows shaking their index finger. Naughty, naughty! Mischief is so fun. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: On February 12th, hundreds of University of Minnesota students will make the case for continued investment in higher education and advocate for a tuition freeze. If you didn't know, there were 983 students from Carver County attending a U of M campus in fall 2014. If you'd like more information, don't hesitate to reach out. Drew Coveyou, Student Association U of M Twin Cities
