So what kind of fish do you think are in the picture and in Lake Sakakawea. They're not walleyes and not northerns. They're not sunfish nor crappies. Obviously they're not salmon or trout. After reading a bit about them, the guys said they were whitefish and we don't fry whitefish up in a pan and eat them like a man. And so into the smoker they went. After a few hours they were done and very tasty. One of the brines only had three ingredients: water, salt, and vinegar. The second included soy sauce and other seasonings. Although both were good, I'd choose the more elaborate brine. And when it comes to the minnow bucket, I choose whichever little entry is grasped first after I've swirled a bit. Winner of the $10 is Beth Ingram of Victoria. She spied the fishhook wrapped around the bottom of the little snowman on page 27 in the January issue of the Gazette. Congratulations, Beth. There's another fishhook hiding in this issue of the Gazette. Email Sue@VictoriaGazette.com or use P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 and sinker in the mail telling me where you found it. Pass the smoked fish, please. |
