Said son Troy Walsh, "It's not only the things that Dad has taught us, but also the things he's taught everybody else in back of this room, and the mentorship that he's done to get us to where we're at in this organization, in this city, in our family. It's remarkable what he's done for everybody." Mayor Thun asked their father if he'd like to speak at this time. Said Tom, "I'd also like to say it's been a wonderful ride. I've worked under the influence of nine chiefs; a couple of chiefs I've worked under two separate times. "I've got the two boys and my wife and my daughter Tisha here tonight. It's been kind of a firefighting family. My wife is my alarm. About 50% of the time, she gave me a poke in the ribs and said you gotta go on a call. You gotta make the call. My daughter in law is in the Chanhassen Fire Department. "It's been an enjoyable time and it's time now to pull the pin and sit back and watch the other guys do their thing. Thank you very much for your time." Stated Mayor Thun, "It's a testament to you and to this community and everything you have done for us throughout the many, many, many years that you have served Victoria and our citizens. You've come through more changes than any one of us up here, and perhaps anyone in the audience, can even fathom. "I know there are firefighters from other communities here tonight, which is a testament to not only did you have an influential role in Victoria, but a very influential role in Carver County, too. "You'll never ever be replaced. This Fire Department and this community will treasure always everything that you have done for us. Thank you so very, very much. Have a wonderful holiday. And thank you to all the firefighters that came tonight." Fire Chief Heger then thanked Mayor Thun and Councilmember Kim Roden who were also "retiring" tonight. Said Andrew, "On behalf of the Victoria Fire Department, I'd like to thank the mayor and Councilmember Roden for their years of service. It's been a pleasure working with you." |

As of November 1st, 2012, Steve Dahl (right) has 25 years on the Victoria Fire Department." Stated Mayor Mary Thun, "Thank you so very much, Steve, for everything you have done for the community. I know you've been on call for us day and night. Thank you for your commitment to this city."
