A Watershed Year Continued |
Dedicated to the sunshine of truth, the moonshine of meeting deadlines, and the starshine of Victoria. |
A YEAR OF CONNECTIONS Not only did Victoria connect with Elvis Presley in 2014, we connected with other concert stars and audiences that gathered on several evenings at Lions Park this summer, as well as in downtown Victoria, many of them sponsored by the hardworking Victoria Business Association. We connected at the several highly successful Classic Car Nights in Victoria, the Victoria Volksfest, Discover Victoria Day, Victoria Lions Breakfasts and Tournament Weekend, plus all the events of the Victoria Fire Department including the Victoria Ice Fishing Contest. Add to that all the events and activities of the many community churches, and it is evident that Victoria is a connecting community. We must especially highlight for 2014 the extraordinary connections made through: 1) Lake Wasserman Trunk Utilities. On January 27th, 2014, the City of Victoria approved final payment to Ryan Contracting for completing their work on the Lake Wasserman trunk utilities connection. The project -- plans and specs were approved in December 2012 -- connected Victoria's sewer and water lines to hundreds of acres of undeveloped property south of Lake Wasserman. The connection to municipal services has already resulted in approximately 300 new single family homes with another 300 on the horizon. 2) Bike Konnect. The first annual Bike Konnect was held on Saturday, June 21st, 2014, near Stieger Lake in downtown Victoria. The event was organized by Carver County and the Park and Rec Departments of Victoria and Chaska. It celebrated trail connections between the two cities. 3) Arboretum Connection. The trail connection between the City of Victoria and the MN Landscape Arboretum was completed this past summer 2014. It not only connects Victoria and the Arboretum, it provides additional connection to the City of Excelsior, the Lake Minnetonka Regional Park, and the Lowry Nature Center. [Approval to construct the connection occurred on November 25th, 2013.] All summed up, it was a Watershed Year of Connections.
A YEAR OF SUBDIVISIONS Seven new subdivisions were brought before Victoria city councilmembers in 2014 and approved for development. The various stages of approval include the sketch plat, preliminary plat, and final plat. New subdivisions approved by the City of Victoria in 2014 include Wasserman Lake Woods (63 homes), Lake Wasserman Ridge (59 homes), Lakeside Estates 2nd Addition (44 homes), Ambergate (49 homes), Arborwood (14 homes), Hawkes Pointe (13 homes), and Chevalle 17th Addition (43 homes). Four of the new subdivisions are located south of Lake Wasserman and were made possible because of the trunk sewer pipe and water line connection to the City of Victoria, noted above. Arborwood is adjacent to Emerald Crest and Bavaria Road. Hawkes Pointe is on Lake Minnetonka. Chevalle 17th fronts on County Roads 11 and 18 across from Deer Run.
