To the Editor:

Thank you, Sue, for your note.  Yes, the pianist at the concert was Sam Reeves, who had not one piece of written music in front of him.  How does he do it!  Oh, man, I just thought he and Robert Robertson and the backup singers were outstanding.  I thought it was a wonderful surge of energy and, also, they were truly such humble individuals.  It was a blessing all around at St. Victoria, plus people stayed afterwards and gabbed, which I just love.  We have a wonderful community.  Have a great day, Sue.  Blessings!

The SouthWest Metro Chamber hosts a quarterly orientation information on how to access the programs and services that are provided through membership.  These benefits offer you the opportunity to cut expenses and grow your business.  This is a great chance to meet the SouthWest Metro Chamber staff, network with other members, and learn about upcoming programs, services, and events.  Anyone wanting to learn more about the SW Metro Chamber is welcome to come to the Chanhassen Rec Center on January 8th, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Your recent musings about the often maligned lutefisk brought back many memories for me.  Growing up with many Norwegian relatives, we routinely had lutefisk for special occasions such as Christmas.  I'll never forget how it would make the whole house smell and was amazed at how much butter my kin would consume with it.

I don't recall any of us young generation ever partaking as we wanted no part of anything that smelled like that.  I was well into my teens before I actually mustered up the courage to try it.  Don't actually remember the taste but I was very put off by the gelatinous texture.  No more for me, please.

My mother's brother Myron seemed to take especially great delight in it and I asked him one Chrismtas, "Do you really like the taste, Myron?"  His answer really surprised me.  "No, not really.  But you have to understand that it is part of our culture."  He then went on to explain how it sustained our emigrating ancestors as they made the trek here by boat as it traveled so well.  I believe lutefisk in its dried state is board-like and will keep like that for extended periods.  For him, it was all about tradition and was a part of who we are.  I found that very interesting and it was kind of a revelation to me.

         Take care.

To the Editor:

Due to increasing material costs and costs of operations, we are announcing a price increase of approximately 2.5% effective January 1st, 2015.  The last across the board price increase was October 2006, and newsprint pricing has remained the same since 2010.  In fact, this is only our second across the board price increase since 2001.

Galaxy prices will also increase from $195 a page to $200 a page.  The last Galaxy increase was in October 2004.

We strive to give our customers the best quality product while keeping our costs as low as possible.  We belong to a large national buying group which helps keep our material costs in check, and we constantly look for ways in which to improve our efficiency.  These efforts have helped to keep our pricing stable.

Let us know if you have any concerns.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Could you include a note about the upcoming January blood drive?  Victoria's American Red Cross Community Blood Drive will be held on Wednesday, January 21st, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Victoria Recreation Center.

Make an appointment online at www.redcrossblood.org (sponsor code 017371) or call Brian at 763-354-9310.  The drive is sponsored by the Victoria Lions Club.

We had one of our biggest turnouts in July and I'm hoping to see you all there again.  Remember that volunteer donors are the only source of lifesaving blood for patients in need.  Thanks very much and  best regards.
