Fourth of July. Independence Day. On July 4th, 1776, the United States of America declared its independence from England. “We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. “Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing forms to which they are accustomed. “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their security.”
Victoria Volksfest. Scheduled this year for Saturday, August 28th. Art fair, food vendors, bed races, antique cars, live music, kiddie parade, magician, singing challenge, raffle drawings, adirondack chair auction, beer olympics, raptor center, and much more.
Victoria Lions Tournament Weekend. Occurring this year from Friday evening, July 16th, through Sunday evening, July 18th, at Lions Park in Victoria. Food, family fun, games and events throughout the weekend.
Victoria Bloodmobile. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Victoria Recreation Center in Victoria on Monday, July 19th, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling Wendy Amundsen at 942-443-2531 or Kathy Sether at 942-443-2088. Walk-ins are also welcome. Babysitting services are available. Please consider giving the gift of life. The Victoria Bloodmobile is sponsored by the Victoria Lions Club.
Victoria City Council Meetings. Held each month on the second and fourth Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the Victoria City Council Chambers on Rose Street in Downtown Victoria.
Victoria Lions meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Victoria Hall on Rose Street at 6:30 p.m.
Victoria Business Council meets on an irregular basis.
Victoria Senior Citizens meet weekly on Thursdays at the Acorn House in Diethelm Park.
