To the Editor: I have lived in this community for over 20 years and have had the privilege to know Pete and Ethel Nelson during this time. I currently reside two doors down from their home on Smithtown Terrace. During the course of construction -- including power driving the coffer dam, falling crane booms, dust, dirt, and all manner of noise pollution -- it is little wonder, given their close proximity to the concussion of the pile driving, that more damage did not result. I could “feel” it three doors away. It is absolute folly to suggest it is an act of God or a pre-existing condition. Common sense was mentioned in an article. The contractor is far more interested in covering his keester. The Metropolitan Council is no better. This is an injustice for both the Corwins and the Nelsons. For a home full of memories to be carelessly disregarded and vandalized in a public works endeavor without remuneration is as far from common sense as it gets. It violates the social soul. Thank you for the article and keeping the issue in print. Richard McConnell Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I’m wondering if you can place this notice in the Victoria Gazette. Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary to Bill and Elaine Scholl of Victoria, with love from their children and grandchildren. They were married on June 25th, 2010. Lori Johnson Via email
To the Editor: Per our discussion today, I am sending you the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Op Ed piece by Board President Jim Calkins, who explains the importance and the impacts to property owners of the new rule changes for wetlands, streambanks, and shorelines. There has been plenty of misinformation about the rule changes as they were being developed and debated and this piece will clarify the reality of the situation. A final public meeting slated for July 8th (See the News Release that I have attached) will allow area residents the opportunity to express their thoughts about the changes and the Op Ed piece invites that citizen participation while defining what the new rules are and aren’t. We hope you can run it. Thank you for the consideration. Martin Keller Media Savant Communications Co.
To the Editor: Carver County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik, who represents the third district on the Carver County Board, which includes the cities of Victoria, Carver, and portions of Chaska, was one of a select group of 22 county leaders and two state association executive directors from across the United States who went to Washington D.C. last week to participate in the seventh annual County Leadership Institute a rigorous program originally developed by the New York University Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service for the National Association of Counties. Said Randy, who is currently the Second Vice President of the Association of Minnesota Counties, “The Institute provided an opportunity not only to consider the experience and insights of experts in the field of leadership development, but also to work with colleagues from across the country on specific approaches to address the challenges that all counties share. The intensive program of instruction and discussion provided invaluable insights that will help me serve the people of Carver County better.” Becky Pizinger Association of Minnesota Counties St. Paul, Minnesota |
