To the Editor: Thank you for your support in helping The Cows that Moo Inside Your Shoe go to the Global competition in May. We placed 16th and in the top third of all groups in the world! We could not have made this trip without the help of friends and family, local businesses, and, of course, our St. Anthony community. You helped us realize a dream we didn't even know we had when we started. Susan Boatman (leader), Sarah, Ava Caleb, Kayli, Jeremiah, James, Abe St. Anthony, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I am an American Cancer Society volunteer and I'm helping the Relay for Life of Waconia promote the Cancer Prevention Study-3 enrollment that they are hosting this summer in August. I've attached an article for your next issue of the Gazette. I'm hoping to reach Victoria residents with information about this wonderful unique opportunity to fight back against cancer. This year, area residents will have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enroll in the American Cancer Society's third Cancer Prevention Study. Individuals between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer and who are willing to make a longterm commitment to the study will be able to enroll at the Relay for Life of Waconia from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, August 17th, at the Carver County Fairgrounds. For more information, your readers can email cps3waconia@yahoo.com or call me at 952-445-6354. Ruby Winings, CPS-3 Volunteer Shakopee, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi. My name is Ian Gaida and I am writing to you for a boy scout requirement on my opinion on the proposed light rail system. It is my belief that with the proper funding, research, and construction, the light rail line could serve as a great opportunity to increase commerce and serve as an alternate route if Highway 5 were to close again. Yes, it would cost taxpayers some money, but the fare for riding would cover some of the costs, and with a light rail connection the City of Victoria would grow faster, reducing the individual cost to taxpayers. If the time is taken to study all this, I do believe that the light rail line would be a great opportunity for Victoria. Ian Gaida Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I have decided that I will not be seeking re-election as Mayor of Victoria this November. Thanks to all of the residents of Victoria for allowing me to serve you as a councilmember for the last ten years. It has been a richly rewarding experience for me. Thanks to all of the councilmembers that I have served with over the years. Together, I believe we have made a difference. I want to thank all of the following who have helped me "Focus on the Future" in so many meaningful ways: the diligent qualified city staff, all of the committees and commissions who have contributed an immense number of hours and ideas, Victoria business community and partners throughout Carver County and beyond, and, finally, my friends and family. You have all made an indelible mark on my life. I will continue to work hard for Victoria until my term ends at the end of December. And I will always be one of Victoria's vocal supporters. Mary Hershberger Thun, Mayor City of Victoria
To the Editor: A big thank you to our city council, Mayor Mary Hershberger Thun, Tom O'Connor, Tom Strigel, and Jim Crowley, for making our transition back to Victoria an enjoyable one. Also a big thank you to Holly Kreft for her big research. Victoria is a very special place and it is a joy to be back. Always enjoy your paper! From a grateful heart ... Al and Louise Lehner Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thank you for your help in getting the Chaska Education Association ad in the Gazette. It was beautiful. I look forward to working again with you in the future. Gretchen Garcia, President, CEA Chaska, Minnesota
