EQUIPMENT FOR NEW FIRE TRUCK

SHOULD ARRIVE AT HOME IN VICTORIA SOON

Andrew Heger, Chief of the Victoria Fire Department, spoke to city councilmembers on July 11th about purchasing equipment for the new fire truck.  "We went to three vendors with our equipment list.  Low bid was $21,815."  Non-specialty equipment is also required at an estimated additional cost of $14,256.  Total cost to outfit the new fire truck is $36,071.

Mayor Mary Thun pointed out, "This has been discussed thoroughly in the past."  Budgeted amount for the equipment is $37,000.

Said Chief Heger on June 11th, "We have a group going up to see the new truck at Wyoming, MN.  They're assembling the body right now.  We should get a delivery date soon.  It will definitely be at our Open House in October and at some of our community events this summer."

Victoria's new fire truck was approved for purchase in August 2011.  Cost of the engine is $415,084.  It is to be financed with seven annual payments of $68,265 with the first payment due in 2013.  It is being built by General Safety Equipment LLC, a subsidiary of Rosenbauer America located in Wyoming, which is located a couple miles north of Forest Lake.

SHORTER JUNE CITY SCOOP IN VICTORIA

MANY ELECTION JUDGES COME FORWARD

*Councilmember Jim Crowley acknowledged the four items in June's claim roster that include largest expenditures:  a payment to Carver County for $76,230 for the city's share of the purchase of two street sweepers under the joint powers agreement, payment to Carver county for $143,971 for one-half of the annual police contract, payment of $84,549 for a Toro Groundmaster lawnmower, payment of $124,260 to Three Rivers Park District for the buyout option on the land swap for the 13.5 acres (third of five annual payments).

*Council authorized the issuance and sale of bonds in an amount not to exceed $26.5 million for refinancing construction and equipment at Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria.  The bonds were previously issued by the City and there is no liability or cost to the City.  As with other similar refinancing issues, the city serves as a conduit.  Said Kathy Brown, president and principal of HFCHS, "I want you to know how grateful we are to you.  The relationship between Holy Family and the City of Victoria has been nothing but symbiotic."  Said Mayor Thun, "I know that Holy Family provides staff and volunteers for city festivals.  Thank you for being a big part of the community.  We appreciate it very much."

*Council approved the  vacation of a portion of Lakes Parkway and Acorn Run at Lakebridge to accommodate a street realignment in Krey Lakes 4th Addition.

*Council approved the final plat for Krey Lakes 4th Addition.  It includes 25 lots, the majority owned by D. R. Horton, and four by Pemtom.  A revised preliminary plat was approved in April.  All lots will be at least 70 feet in width.  All lots will have at least 10 feet sideyard setbacks.  Parkland dedication for active recreation and trails is 5.4 acres.  Other space deeded to the city amounts to 54.2 acres.  Approval of the final plat was recommended unanimously by the Planning Commission.
