VICTORIA CITY HALL FRIDAY HOURS OPEN 8 A.M. TO 12 NOON THIS SUMMER Council approved a summer pilot program in the City of Victoria whereby staff will operate under different hours during the summer months. From July 6th through the week of August 31st, which is nine weeks, City Hall hours on Friday will now be from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
SWIMMING POOLS IN VICTORIA NO LONGER CONSIDERED IMPERVIOUS SURFACE Council greed with a suggestion from Community Development Director Ben Landhauser that a swimming pool not be included when determining the amount of impervious surface on a property. "Pools are not really obstructing infiltration," said Ben. "From a functional view, I don't see any."
VICTORIA SAYS NO TO SOLAR GARDENS RISK AND INEFFICIENCY IN MINNESOTA WINTERS Council voted 4-0 on June 22nd to not approve a proposal to participate in a Community Solar Subscriber Collaborative with the Metropolitan Council, although staff recommended approval. As Councilmember Tom Strigel said, "This only works because there' a 30% federal grant to help construct the solar garden. This is essentially buying electricity fixtures." His advice was to be very cautious.
VICTORIA’S BIKE KONNECT A WINNER AWARD OF EXCELLENCE TO HOLLY KAUFHOLD Holly Kaufhold, Victoria's Recreation Supervisor, received an Award of Excellence for Bike Konnect, a collaborative event hosted by Victoria, Chaska, and Carver County Parks. This year's event was held June 20th, and involved an 8-mile ride from Victoria to Chaska on city and county trails.
CLEAN ANNUAL AUDIT REPORT FOR 2014 STARTS WITH VICTORIA’S FINANCE DEPARTMENT Andy Berg of Abdo, Eick & Meyers presented a review of Victoria's 2014 audit report on June 8th. "The end result is a clean opinion," said Mr. Berg. "There were no audit findings. It went smoothly. There are no issues to report." Stated Mayor Tom O'Connor, "The city owes Kelly and Tricia congratulations and thanks. That's where it starts. Thank you, Kelly, to you and your staff."
VICTORIA SELLS A TANKER TRUCK TO THE CHASKA FIRE DEPARTMENT On June 8th Council approved the sale of one of the two tanker trucks in the Victoria Fire Department to the Chaska Fire Department. Said Victoria Fire Chief Andrew Heger, "We were approached by a neighboring city looking for a new truck. Now we have two tanker trucks, basically set up to haul water." He mentioned Three Rivers Park, the township, and the northern part of Victoria as not having municipal water connections.
LOOKING FOR CREATIVITY IN VICTORIA TO HELP FUND FIRE DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT Finance Manager Kelly Grinnell reported June 8th that she and the Finance Committee met with Victoria Fire Chief Andrew Heger to discuss the capital equipment fund for the Fire Department. Firefighters Aaron Jurek and Brady Lee also attended, she said. "We talked about long term needs to 2030," said Kelly. She said the annual transfer from the city's General Fund to the Fire Department's Capital Equipment Fund has been $70,000 and has not increased for some time. They're asking for an increase.
DECREASE IN LMCD BUDGET AND LEVY VICTORIA’S SHARE DOWN BY 3.9% OR $913 The budget of the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District is projected downward for 2016, and that includes Victoria's share of that budget. Greg Nybeck, Executive Director of the LMCD, and Ann Hoelscher, Victoria's representative on the LMCD, were on the city's agenda June 8th to review next year's budget.
MAKING APPLICATION FOR MN FUNDING AND A POSSIBLE VICTORIA EVENT CENTER Council voted 4-0 on June 8th to direct staff to complete an application for $500,000 in funding from the 2016 Bonding Bill at the State Legislature. The funding, if approved, would fund 50% of the proposed Victoria Lions Event Center. Councilmember Joe Pavelko was absent. "Deadline to submit the application is June 12th," said City Manager Laurie Hokkanen. "We've postponed a neighborhood meeting until we ascertain the viability of the location."
