VICTORIA REC CENTER PROPERTY FULL TRADE-OFFS WOULD BE REQUIRED TO ADD ON "When you pull up to the site, it seems there is lots of room for expansion, but that's not the case if you look at all the things on the site," said City Manager Laurie Hokkanen, referring to a map of the Victoria Recreation Center property. The 37.55-acre site includes the building with two sheets of ice and oversized gymnasium, three fenced ball fields, two soccer fields, playground area, basketball court, parking lots, storm ponds, and wetlands.
RECEIVING REFERENDUM INFORMATION FROM EASTERN CARVER COUNTY SCHOOLS "I think they've definitely done their homework," said City Manager Laurie Hokkanen regarding Eastern Carver County Schools and the upcoming 2015 Referendum. Laurie pointed out that 73% of school dollars goes to instruction, and that the referendum in early polls is highly supported. She said that she and Mayor Tom O'Connor and Councilmember Lani Basa met with school district officials to talk about the referendum.

VICTORIA PURSUES DOWNTOWN IDEAS TO KEEP REDEVELOPMENT ON THE BURNER Community Development Director Ben Landhauser reported on June 8th that 12 to 15 people have committed to participate in focus groups related to the work of Hoisington Koegler Group. As reported in May, the Group was hired in April at a cost of $56,000 to draft a scope of downtown planning services that would allow for safer, more efficient, and quicker development in downtown Victoria.
ALREADY PREPARING 2016 CITY BUDGET MEDIAN VALUE OF VICTORIA HOMES UP AGAIN The City of Victoria is already looking at budget numbers for the year 2016. Said Finance Director Kelly Grinnell on June 8th, "We have gotten values from the county. We have a budget calendar. We look at the budget multiple times in the year. We welcome input from the public. We have sent out budget worksheets to the departments."
LOOKING FOR THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY MEDIAN VALUE OF VICTORIA HOMES UP AGAIN With final payments now being approved for construction items related to the new Victoria City Hall and Public Works Facility, Councilmember Tom Strigel asked for a summarized total of all construction costs related to the new buildings. "I would like to see a post mortem on both of the projects" said Councilmember Strigel, "looking at it from a budget standpoint and also functionality ... the benefits gained, additional efforts that should be put in, a review of the facilities that includes complete costs of the projects. I'd like it to include the lessons learned, the benefits, the good, the bad, and the ugly."
SHORTER CITY SCOOP FROM JUNE VICTORIA HALL COULD BE OWN JULY 7TH *City Manager Laurie Hokkanen reported that the Village Hall and former City Offices on Rose Street could be removed as early as July 7th.
