The Victoria GAZETTE |
To the Editor: As usual you have many nice photos in the May Gazette. Especially liked those from the "editor's shoebox" where there were a few people that I remember. After having recently been at St. Francis and St. Gertrude's for rehab, I would like to thank all who prayed for me, sent cards, or helped in any way. Found the fishhook on page 16 in the bunny ear of Jacob Peters. Enjoy the summer! Ethel Schneider Shakopee, Minnesota
To the Editor: Ethel Ausink had quite an interesting article about those curly fluorescent light bulbs. I hate those stupid bulbs. You have to leave them on a while before they are bright. That's not saving energy. They're expensive. In some ads I've seen them priced at four for ten bucks. I've gotten four packs with four incandescent bulbs for a buck to a buck and a quarter. At our apartment here at Talheim, we just got those twisty bulbs in our doorway and storage closet. I have a shady apartment as it is now and I prefer bright lights when needed. I have trees and other buildings facing my apartment. I hate to imagine what it will be like for anyone with macular degeneration to deal with those stupid lights. I don't leave my lights on all day nor my TV. When I use the oven to bake a cake, I also fix a meal. I don't run the air conditioning full blast unless it gets beastly hot from baking and I often shut it off and get by with a fan. During the energy crisis in the 1970's, lots of energy tips were around. One was to shut off the lights when you leave a room. That's just common sense. Going green on some things is good but with low-flush toilets and twisty light bulbs, forget it! Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am sure some of you have already heard about this but, just in case, I am sending it on for awareness and alertness. I originally heard the report of the guy who chased a boy in the Swiss Mountain neighborhood the other day. The boy ran for safety into a neighbor's house for help. He was also spotted around Clover Ridge. I hate to spread fear, but we need to be informed. Antennas up. Be on the lookout. Lynn Gabriel Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: About your opinion of the royal wedding, I feel exactly as you do regarding the reverent civilized occasion. You put it to words so much better than I could have. Thank you. And God save the queen! (And the UK.) Tom Stumpf Cowboy Correspondent
To the Editor: My name is Michael Ireland. You may or may not remember me. I worked for the Laker-Pioneer between 1987-1989, was a contributing writer for the Sun-Sailor group in the mid to late 1990's, and for the last 12 years have been the chief reporter for an international news agency. I have a B.A. in Magazine Journalism and am once again looking for a writing gig in the newspaper field. I am willing to volunteer my time and talents and would love to connect with you on any opportunities you have. Thank you for your time and consideration. Michael Ireland Chaska, Minnesota
