Scarlet Tanager. Dick Kellor and I, out at Piersons Lake, have seen Scarlet Tanagers! I haven't seen one in a decade! Kurt Zuppke, Piersons Lake Laketown Township
Girl Scout Troop #15386, second graders from Victoria Elementary School, held a Food Drive and collected 669 pounds of food on April 28th. The Food Drive began in partnership with Positive Connections (460 North Hickory Street), the bus company that transports kids to and from VES. In the morning, bus drivers collected food from students on their way to school. After school, the Girl Scouts enjoyed a tour of the Positive Connections Bus Garage. They ended their evening walking the Allegheny Grove neighborhood in Victoria, collecting more donations. They brought the food to the Oasis Food Shelf (2470 Chaska Blvd in Chaska) where they toured the facility. Oasis Food Shelf is connected to Oasis Church, Chaska. The girls hope to do the Drive again next year and increase the amount of food collected. Thank you, Fresh Seasons Market in Victoria, for donating paper bags for the Drive. Lee Ann and Harmon. The picture that Mom dropped off of me and Harmon Killibrew was taken in early 2002 when I was in Jacksonville, Florida, flying with a Navy S-3B Viking squadron. Harmon Killibrew (and a few other "greats") came on the base and were visiting with different military members, right in our building. We had some time to visit and get pictures, and he seemed sincerely happy to meet and speak with a fellow Minnesotan. I think I spent about 20 minutes with him before he had to move on. It was a fun and exciting day. Lee Ann Singleton Burnsville, Minnesota EDITOR'S NOTE: Lee Ann is the daughter of Ralph and Jan Olinger of Victoria. She is currently a Navy Recruiter for Navy Reserve Officers in Minneapolis. Thank you, Jan, for thinking of the Gazette.
