The Victoria GAZETTE |
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I am interested in placing a little article and a few photos about the Girl Scouts from Victoria visiting our campus. I have never done this before, so I was just wondering how much it would cost and how I go about getting the information and photos to you. Does email work best or other mail? Thank you for your time. Ali Vanderlinde Augustana Emerald Crest Victoria, Minnesota
EDITOR'S NOTE: Email works best. Use high resolution jpg's for the photos. There is no charge. I love hearing from the community.
To the Editor: Last week I sent you a sample article of the many different topics I am able to provide to seniors and their families when navigating the vast and sometimes scary world of issues facing people today. Please contact me if you'd like such information. Kim Stender Plymouth, Minnesota
To the Editor: As you are no doubt aware, there have been a number of deadly devastating storms in parts of the Midwest and Southern U.S. I write to encourage your prayers for those affected, your involvement with volunteer relief efforts, and your charitable giving to any number of trusted service agencies. I would also like to share some ways that we might reach out to our neighbors in North Minneapolis. Fox 9 reports (5/25) that volunteers are needed at Cross Connections (1823 Emerson Avenue North) to work from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The Salvation Army is seeking (5/25) volunteers with strong arms and backs to unload disaster donations from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Normandale Tech Center (6443 Cecilia Circle) in Bloomington. Financial donations for metro storm relief may be made online by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY, sending a check earmarked "metro storm" to The Salvation Army, 2445 Prior Avenue, Roseville, MN 55113, or texting "BLESSING" to make a $10 donation. Donations may be made to American Red Cross Disaster Relief by calling 612-460-3700 or mailing a gift to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 1450, Minneapolis, MN 55486. To donate to the Minneapolis Helps North Minneapolis Recovery Fund, visit www.GiveMN.org or send your gift to The Minneapolis Foundation, 80 S. 8th Street, Suite #800, Minneapolis, MN 55402 . A quote from Ann Weem: "Hurting, they came to Him/Healed, they followed Him/Grateful, they gave to Him what they had and who they were/ Blessed, they became a blessing and went out to all the world in His name." Pastor Brian Dixon The Moravian Church of Lake Auburn Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Every year the Better Business Bureau receives complaints from parents who paid money upfront to a company that promised to find scholarships and grants for their child but ultimately did not deliver. The BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota recommends doing your research before paying a company to find financial aid for college. All the information you need is available for free. Get information on Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.gov. Dan Hendrickson, BBB Communications Coordinator St. Paul, Minnesota
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. I'm wondering if you'd be interested in publishing Gospel reflections in the Gazette, besides those already offered by your local clergy. Our pastor led us in an awesome reflection during this past Sunday's homily. I would like to share some of that if you think it might be a good idea. On the lighter side, I have something else to offer. One of my homebound parishioners, to whom I bring Holy Communion on Sundays, has had many ailments during her long life of 90+ years. The other day when I arrived, she said, "I have another ailment, a new one. It makes reading difficult and it's called Immaculate Conception. I paused for a moment, congratulated her, laughed together, then discussed Macular Degeneration. Carol Kelzer Sioux City, Iowa |
