GAZETTE

June 2012

To the Editor:

With the 2012 legislative session relegated to the history books, the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce will host their annual legislative wrap up on Monday, June 4th, at the Chanhassen American Legion from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

David Olson, President of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, will lead the discussion on how the business community fared in their legislative priorities.  We had some victories but we also had some pretty disappointing defeats as well.

Also attending will be Senator Julianne Ortman, Representative Joe Hoppe, and Representtive Ernie Leidiger.  The local legislators will share their perspective on the most recent session and answer questions from the audience as well.

For more information on the breakfast or to inquire about registration, call 952-474-3233 or go to swmetrochamber.com.

To the Editor:

I no longer serve in Carver and Scott County, but I can recognize a growing phenomenon when I see it.  Thought I would give you a heads up about the SayHey 5K coming to downtown Chaska June 30th.  Many Victoria residents will be in the race.

To the Editor:

The SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation is pleased to announce and to host the new 5K for Education.  The 5K for Education is a new event being hosted by the scholarship committee of the Foundation to raise money and awareness for the scholarship fund.

The  5K for Education will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, at the Chanhassen Rec Center.  Pre-registration is available at the Chamber website.  Cost is $35 for all racers 13 and up and includes a t-shirt.  Kids under the age of 12 are complimentary.  Event day registration is also available on race day.  Registration and check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m.  Those choosing to run the route will begin at 9:00 a.m. and those walking will start at 9:15 a.m.

Please note that the 5K for Education is for enjoyment only and will not be timed.  Additional information and registration can be found online at swmetrochamber.com or by contacting the Chamber office at 952-474-3233.

A partnership between the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Snap Fitness is helping to making this race possible.  All money raised goes to the Foundation to provide scholarships to graduating seniors within our region.

To the Editor:

The weather in springtime can be severe.  Property owners should safeguard their families, homes, and businesses from the potential disaster that can occur from tornadoes, lightning, thunderstorms, and flooding.

A basic emergency kit should include one gallon water per person and pets per day for at least three days, at least a three-day supply of nonperishable food for adults, children, and pets, along with a can opener, battery powered radio, cell phone, flashlight, first aid kit, copies of insurance policies and  bank account records in a waterproof container, sleeping bags or warm blankets for each person, and a fire extinguisher.
