VICTORIA CITY OFFICES PLASTIC WRAPPED PETROLEUM FUMES INTERRUPTING WORK It was Thursday morning, May 15th, that part of Victoria City Offices became wrapped in plastic to seal off offensive and perhaps poisonous odors. According to information from City Manager Don Uram, the petroleum fumes that morning were first noticed by city employees Trisha Pollock (Accounting Technician), Tom Gray (Building Official), and Jennie Kretsch (City Clerk). The two cubicles are offices for Jessica Beise (Executive Assistant) and the engineering and GIS consultants. Tom Gray called Christians, Inc., a family owned and operated insurance restoration company in Chanhassen. Mr. Uram had proposed building a wall to seal off the fumes so people could get back to work. The restoration company proposed the plastic barrier. Origin of the petroleum fumes is still unknown. It first came to light in 2011 after the parking lot next to the City Hall was paved. That parking lot was a former location of the Kirsch Distributorship Building. Current City Offices are located in the former Victoria Fire Station. Last year in October, City Offices were closed because of fumes in the building. Mayor Tom O’Connor in photo. |
