To the Editor: Hey, Sue, thanks for the ink in your May paper. I'll keep you posted on award status. I'll be in St. Paul for the gala award ceremony on May 13th. On another note, no, I am not getting fat. I'm the same 200# you saw in your kitchen a few years ago. In the picture, my shirt is out. I'll know better next time. Unless you like fat men. Jerry Mevissen, River Man Sebeca, Minnesota
To the Editor: To answer your question at the end of your Hook Line & Sinker column, I smelt lilacs for the first time today. And I found the fishhook in the Y of the Simply Irresistible ad for KleinBank. Katie Thiede Carver, Minnesota
To the Editor: Great job on the history of the Mayors of Victoria! I love our history and, speaking of history, I noticed the photo you took of the Timeline Banners (on page 42) of the office building at 1600 Arboretum Boulevard, just east of the Klein bank. As you know, that was the building in the photo depicting a change in the school district from District 16 to District 109. That building was built in 1919. The architect who designed that school for the district was the same architect who designed the famous Foshay Tower in Minneapolis, which was finished 10 years later in 1929. The firm's name was Magney & Tusler, Inc. It exists today under a different name. They designed several buildings in Minneapolis, including the beautiful Women's Club near Loring Park. This school building at 1600 Arboretum Boulevard is one of the most famous buildings in Victoria and is still standing in good shape. This summer we will be improving a well-needed exterior updating. The original brick exterior is untouched. The wood portion of the building was added to increase the size in 1976. Some of the wood was installed over the brick to "modernize architecturally" the exterior look. Basically, someone thought it needed a change. Just a tidbit of info for you. Have a great spring. To the Editor: Hi, Sue. We'll be back at our summer address by the end of May so please change our mailing label for the Gazette. Also, I've been invited to appear at the Victoria Library for a "Meet the Author" deal. Would you be so kind as to print a blurb about it in the next issue of the Gazette? It'll be Tuesday, June 9th, at 6:30 p.m. Fred Plocher Marana, Arizona
To the Editor: Hi, Sue. What a time consuming job you had for the May Gazette and all the Victoria mayors. A note to say you came to my house in Hamburg for pictures, not New Germany. Also, former Mayor Wm Braunworth had seven children: Myrtle, Mildred, Berniece, Willard, Lloyd, Dorothy, and Jewel Pearl, who died at one month old. The family told me that Pearl Fossum baptized the baby during her last days. I agree with Wilfred Plocher and his letter in your May paper, how the new buildings on Stieger Lake Lane wrecked that part of the city. I'm glad I don't live on Quamoclit Street anymore. Lorraine Braunworth Hamburg, Minnesota
