To the Editor: I’m still reading and enjoying this wonderful little -- actually not so little -- paper, and I would like to get a subscription for a dear friend of mine who has a business in and lives in the area of Loretto. Although I’m still the nonreader of our family, I am thankful that I do love reading your paper. I’m approaching age 65 now and I don’t want to forget how to read!! Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s awesome. Barbara Rizor Cowboy Tom’s oldest sister) Loretto, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Victoria Fire Department Relief Association would like to thank the community of Victoria, surrounding communities, and all the businesses and individuals who have helped to make the 23rd Annual VFDRA Ice Fishing Contest a huge success. Proceeds raised during the contest will help fund a new thermal imaging camera, our annual Open House on October 2nd, 2010, and our upcoming Victoria Fire Department Centennial Celebration in 2013. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the following individuals and businesses whose donations of money, services, and goods make this event possible. Further, we’d like to ask that our community continue to patronize these folks that have so generously provided donations, goods, and services for our annual event. The Victoria Fire Relief Association also extends our sincere appreciation to Sue Orsen and the Victoria Gazette for providing many years of excellent coverage and publicity for our fishing contests. We thank all who have made this event possible. We also look forward to serving the Victoria community in the upcoming year as well as hosting the 24th Annual VFD Fishing Contest on Sunday, February 6th, 2011. Thanks! The Victoria Fire Department Relief Association Victoria, Minnesota
Dear Editor Susan O’Orsen: Happy St. Patrick’s Day, O’Readers. I imagine people are tired of snow by now, and those who have arthritis like me hate the cold air. Cold air makes the arthritis ache, and I do hear the grannies in Talheim talk plenty of how they ache here and there. Some gals are 75 to 90 years old. I tell them wait until they get as old as me, 45 in July 2010. Maybe if the grannies would to to Century Wine and have a nip, they wouldn’t have to “whine” about arthritis. And then when they’re feeling better they could go fishing with the hook hiding on the Century Wine ad, page 11 in the February issue. So I keep warm and do as little as possible and get out the electric blanket. Tylenol doesn’t help much for arthritis. I have a brother, Greg, ten years older than I am and he has rheumatoid arthritis and sits in a hot tub. The electric blanket helps me. I don’t use liniments. It makes my skin get a rash and it burns me as I have sensitive skin. Remembering my mom who was born May 13th, 1927, and died February 17th, 1991, Rose Meuwissen, the unforgettable rose. What is a mother? A heart that can hear every unspoken need, wisdom to know when to quietly lead, hands that reach out always helping and sharing, a mother is caring. Eyes that reflect every joy that you find but never to bind, a talent for making the most out of living, a mother is giving. A voice that can soothe or inspire or delight, a smile that keeps shining when things don’t go right, an angel God sent to heaven above, a mother is caring and giving and love. As ever ... To the Editor: I would like you all to know what a treat it is to have the opportunity to shop at the Fresh Seasons Market in Victoria. I have known the owner for several years now and know how much emphasis is put on community involvement and enrichment. When first arriving in the store, you will be happy with the orderly aisles and clean store, but most of all the friendly and knowledgeable employees. These are people from our own community, helping to provide us with the freshest produce, top notch meat and fish, fresh bread, and a wonderful deli. You may think this is a specialty market with high prices and strange foods. The store does carry some unique items, but it also provides us with everyday bargains. If you can’t let go of that “high priced image” you may have, you will find that it’s really just a neighborhood grocery store. I have been a Personal Chef for over eight years now and am thrilled with the personal service provided at Fresh Seasons. I rarely shop anywhere else these days as the larger stores lack the quality and freshness I require for my family and clients. Kristi Ryan Chaska, Minnesota
