To the Editor: I am writing you with regard to my project called, “The Faces Behind the Names,” that gathered biographies, photos, and last letters home from families who lost a loved one in the Vietnam War. My first volume came out in 1996 and the second volume in 2000. What I did not realize is that many families of a lost serviceman did not hear of the project and now are contacting me wanting to include their man in any reprint. My books are in many Minnesota High School libraries, donated by the local VFW’s and American Legions, and family homes. Michael Notermann of Victoria is included. I am now 72 years old so this will be “The Final Wave,” and I am hoping you and your newspaper can help this project move forward one last time. If any of your readers know someone who was not profiled in the first two books, you can find contact information at my website, www.donwardpublishing.com. Don Ward Minneapolis, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thanks so much for the huge spread in the February Gazette regarding my son Lee and his deployment to Afghanistan. Just got my copy yesterday. Wow. Beautiful, and I’m sure many others appreciate your support and keeping the attention out there. Mary Pieper Belle Plaine, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thank you for sending your great paper to Florida. Wonderful to keep in touch with what is going on in Victoria. Specially loved your favorite quotes by Germaine. No one can ever top hers. Did you know she was part of our prayer group that used to meet weekly for five to six years? Now you know the rest of the story. Love, Bonnie Fritz Naples, Florida
To the Editor: Keep up your good work on the Gazette. Enjoy reading it. Finding the fishhook on the heart in the Chapman ad is even more fun. You can put my note in your minnow bucket. Happy Valentine’s Day. Marie Otten Waconia, Minnesota
To the Editor: The people of Scott and Carver counties have once again truly provided Hope for the Holidays for families who are struggling to make ends meet. Astounding support from the community allowed the CAP Agency to provide holiday “hope” and gifts to 4,742 individuals from 1,101 families in Scott and Carver counties. Through the generosity of our communities, families received holiday gifts selected from their “wish list” as well as food and gift cards. Other donors contributed cash for the project to purchase needed items. On behalf of the CAP Agency and the families served by Hope for the Holidays, I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to the individuals, businesses, schools, faith communities, and civic groups who, through their thoughtfulness and generosity, make this project successful. We are also grateful for the many volunteers who donated over 500 hours to receive, sort, and distribute the gifts. The CAP Agency is proud to be part of these communities who demonstrate such a strong spirit of giving support and partnership. My best to all of you in 2011. Carolina Bradpiece, Executive Dir. Scott Carver Dakota CAP Agency Inc.
To the Editor: I so enjoy your paper online and especially the pictures of your family. There are no pictures posted in Sue's Album yet for 2011!! I used to live in Chaska. My middle son still does. My two oldest sons used to play softball and, of course, we attended many Lions' tournaments in Victoria. I see many of the boys' friends in your various pictures. The Gazette is a national newspaper! Thanks for all you do. Dianne Oney Santa Barbara, California
