To the Editor:

Jayne and I are blessed with five grandchildren.  All of them enjoy satellite or cable, HighDef, surround sound, flat screen TV with hundreds of channels.  Yet too often we hear them whimper, "There's nothing on TV."  Well, I came from the Golden Age, and so in that respect they are correct:  There is nothing on TV.

The Golden Age of Radio is generally defined as from the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's.  Remembering radio in the '50's brings back memories in my parents' automobile, my grandparents' home, our living room after school, and Sunday dinner time with the family around the table.  The magic wonders of radio allowed a little boy's imagination to proliferate.

Do you remember Ma Perkins, The Guiding Light, Arthur Godfrey, The Romance of Helen Trent, The Second Mrs. Burton, Fibber McGee & Molly, Jack Benny, Bing Crosby, Fred Allen, Phil Harris, Big Swing Bands, Lux Radio Theater, Bob Hope, Bob and Ray, Groucho Marx, Amos and Andy, Life with Luigi?

Do you remember Duffy's Tavern, Radio Mystery Theater, Our Miss Brooks, Gunsmoke, Sherlock Holmes, Sky King, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy, Superman, Ozzie and Harriet, Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, Mr. Keene Tracer of Lost Persons, The Saint, Armed Forces Radio Service?

Do you remember Blondie and Dagwood, Abbott and Costello, Stan Freberg, My Friend Irma, Henry Aldrich, The Great Gildersleeve, Red Skelton, This is Your FBI, Suspense Theater, Green Hornet, The Whistler, The Shadow, Calling All Cars, Perry Mason, Dragnet, Dick Tracy, Phillip Morrow, and, of course, the Lone Ranger?

From the Golden Age that I come from, my grandchildren are correct.  There is nothing on TV from their childhood that they will cherish.
