March 2011

Letters continued

To the Editor:

Superheroes, beware!  Throughout the month of March, Carver County shoppers will get a chance to become heroes themselves.  In celebration of Red Cross Month, six local stores are joining forces with the Carver County Red Cross to raise funds and awareness for the organization.

Red Cross "Hero" squares will be available at each location for purchase at $1 apiece.  The squares, along with donors' names, will be posted to a Red Cross Wall of  Heroes in each store.  Red Cross volunteers will be on hand at each location to sell the squares and answer questions about the organization.

Volunteers from the Red Cross will be at these locations during the following dates and times:

*Econo Foods, Norwood Young America, Saturday, March 5th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

*Market Place Foods, Watertown, Thursday, March 10th, 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

*Chaska Dunn Bros, Chaska, Saturday, March 12th, 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

         *Cooper's Market, Chaska, Saturday, March 12th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

         *Fresh Seasons Market, Victoria, Saturday, March 19th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

         *Mackenthun's, Waconia, Saturday, March 26th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Carver County Red Cross is dedicated to helping people prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters and other emergencies in many ways.  Each year the chapter helps an average of six to eight Carver County families recover from house and apartment fires at no cost to the families.  The chapter has also already had eight local bloodmobiles in 2011 and is scheduled to hold 18 more through June.

For more information, visit carvercountyredcross.org or call 952-467-4449.

To the Editor:

It was nice to talk with you today.  As the new communications manager at the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, I look forward to working with you on MCWD projects that are of interest to you and your readers.  As I told you on the phone, we're pulling together our resources to answer your questions about the carp harvesting on Pierson Lake and Wasserman Lake in Victoria so that you have the complete story for the Victoria Gazette.  You'll be hearing back from us soon.  Thank you.
